Just to be sure here is the mailing address for forms 8453 and applicable attachments.
Internal Revenue Service
Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254
Receipt and Control Branch
Austin, TX 73344-0254
Use this address and resend.
Please see the attachment, I think it has the right address/information.
Try putting the mailings in another envelope and re-addressing and resending. That address is definitely the current address and there is no indication of a change from the IRS.
The numbers to the left and below the yellow USPS sticker indicate that the bar code was read as the 77073-6278 zipcode, which is wrong. So do put the whole thing into another envelope, and address it manually.
Will this affect or delay my refund?
Will this affect or delay my refund?
The Austin TX post office has told me that the IRS address zip code printed on Form 8453, namely 73344-0254 is incorrect. I've been told IRS does not use this zip code. So, the mail will not scan. Despite the fact that I mailed the form and attachments on March 15 via Certified Mail, it is languishing somewhere in the Austin post office waiting to be hand scanned. Location unknown. Expected date of delivery unknown. Can you get a better address?
Can you clarify what address you mailed it too? The address provided by the IRS is:
Internal Revenue Service
Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254
Receipt and Control Branch
Austin, TX 73344-0254
Your situation is very similar to mine, would really appreciate if there's any new update.
Also sent my form 8453 on Mar 21 via certified mail, to the address listed on the form (Receipt and control branch in Austin Tx, [removed]).
Finally arrived at a post office in Austin, TX, 78710 on 4/1/2025 3:36am
Then it's showing "Available for Pickup, at the GMF AUSTIN 8225 CROSS PARK DR, AUSTIN TX [removed]) on 4/1/2025 7:24am.
Lastly it showed "Delivered, Left with Individual". BUT this is at Austin, TX 73301, on 4/1/2025 11:56am.
And this is NOT the same zipcode I put on the certified mail...
Any ideas on what's the best approach now to make sure my form 8453 got to the right hands at this point?
Besides being concerned that IRS may not receive the required documents from me, I also worry that my identify may be at risk if the mail got into the wrong hands. Included on the form are info such as SSN, address, bank account number etc.
Thank you all!
I would set up an account with the IRS and you should be able to verify if they received your form.
