I'm entering my correct routing number (9 digits from the bottom left of my checks) and getting an "Invalid bank routing number" error.

On "confirm routing number" it's and error saying the routing numbers don't match.  I'm looking at them and they do.  Any ideas?

You can enter a mismatch and not see if even if you are looking right at it.

Look at the check carefully ... sometimes the routing number to use is NOT the 9 digit INTERNAL routing # on the bottom left  but the one that is noted as ACH R/T  number   just above it ... if you don't see it then contact your bank for the correct EXTERNAL routing number.

I'm having a similar problem. I've got the same routing number that I've used for years, but it says it is wrong. I've re-entered it a dozen times and it just keeps looping me back around. I can't even get to confirming it.

Please contact your bank as routing numbers to be used sometimes changes.  Also clear the entire field, close or log out of the program, clear your cookies and/or browser history  and try that section again.

Called Bank of America - after confirming once the routing code - called again and they have a different routing code for direct deposits. Do not use the code on the checks.  Solved my problem.

I encountered this problem today too for some reason.  Had to go into add another bank account, copied that number they kept saying was incorrect even though it was exactly the same and pasted it in the next screen and it worked.

I also have the same problem.  I entered the correct routing number and it would not take it.  It showed it had a "b" at the end of the number but not in the entry field.

Definitely a bug in the software . . . too  bad there is no one to talk to to help resolve this issue.

I had to clear the field and had to get the refund by mail.  Pretty frustrating!!

@Mjdfano

If you’re expecting a domestic wire transfer, you’ll need to give the sender your wire routing number to make sure the payment arrives safely. Confusingly, your 9-digit wire routing number may be the same as your ABA or ACH routing number - but this is not necessarily the case. Some banks prefer to use different numbers based on the type of payment, which means the only way to be sure which number you need for a wire payment is to check directly with your own bank.

We verified with our bank that the routing number is correct.  We also used this routing number for our taxes last year.  The error we get is that there are not the right number of digits in the routing number but this is not the case.  It's definitely a bug.

We would like to take a deeper dive into this message to assist you.  In order to do this, it would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2023" file that is experiencing this issue. You can send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information. If you would like to do this, here are the instructions: Go to the black panel on the left side of your program and select Tax Tools.

  1. Then select Tools below Tax Tools.
  2. A window will pop up which says Tools Center.
  3. On this screen, select Share my file with Agent.
  4. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is. Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  5. Reply to this thread with your Token number. This will allow us to open a copy of your return without seeing any personal information.

Here are the instructions if you are using TurboTax CD/Download:

  1. Click on Online in the top left menu of TurboTax CD/Download for Windows
  2. Select 'Send Tax File to Agent'
  3. Write down or send an image of your token number then place in this issue.
  4. We can then review your exact scenario for a solution.
  5. Please also tell us any states included in the return.

We will then be able to see exactly what you are seeing and we can determine what exactly is going on in your return and provide you with a resolution.

Fix below worked. Thanks.

I'm entering my correct routing number (9 digits from the bottom left of my checks) and getting an "Invalid bank routing number" error.

Also having an issue with what is clearly a software bug. Stuck in a loop where the software is reporting an error with my Federal Information Worksheet. Error is "Routing number has too many characters." I'm entering the number exactly as it appears on my checks; this is the same routing number I've used to file taxes in previous years without issues. Looking at the worksheets, it appears the software is adding additional information after the routing number: "bRoutingNumber"

Blocked from completing my filing because of this issue.

If you are using TurboTax Online, you these steps:

If you are receiving an error message, follow these steps to resolve your issue:

  1. Go back to finish and file and choose direct deposit.
  2. Delete the entered routing number by holding down backspace.
  3. Manually type the routing number. This should resolve your issue.

Where do I enter my bank's routing or account number?

If you are using Desktop Software:

1. Open TurboTax software, then open the file you are working on.

2. Open the "forms" tab at top left.

3. Scroll down to where the banking information is and the routing box will be yellow with the routing number and the word routing number behind it.

4. Clear the box and move the cursor out of the box, then re-enter the cursor in the box and enter your routing number and that should fix it.
