I filed, but got emails saying I didn't finish it

Hi everyone, I'm quite worried about this. I got an email saying this in the body paragraphs:

Let’s get your AGI and e‑file your 2019 taxes Everything is almost done, and your return is ready to be e‑filed, but you’re missing one little thing. The IRS has security rules in place that require your 2018 AGI (adjusted gross income) to confirm your identity before sending off your 2019 tax return. Sign in today and we’ll help you finish up. If you have already filed, please disregard this notice, and thank you for using TurboTax.

I can't do anything when I sign in, so I can't "finish up", whatever that means. Any suggestions? I can't edit or add anything, so I'm really worried!

Correct, Pending simply means that your e-filed return is on its way and that the government hasn't accepted or rejected it yet.

After January, e-filed returns generally sit in Pending status for 48 hours or more before coming back as either Accepted or Rejected. Sometimes state returns stay in Pending for several days or even longer.

Keep calm and check back

Until your state or the IRS processes your return,  you may hear there's "no record found." That actually means the return's still being processed. Just check back in a few days.

Once your return is "Accepted"(check your e-file status) you can then begin to track your refund on the IRS Where’s My Federal Refund? site.

Where’s My Refund? has a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages: (1) Return Received, (2) Refund Approved and (3) Refund Sent.

When will I get my IRS tax refund?

First, to check if your return was filed, by checking your e-file status. If no status is showing, then the return was not completed and submitted.

If you don't see a status, go through the TurboTax File section again. Be sure to go all the way to the end and select Transmit my returns now once you enter in your AIG.

The IRS requires your 2018 AGI to verify your identity for e-filing. If you filed your 2018 taxes with TurboTax, sign in and go down to Your tax returns & documents. Select View adjusted gross income (AGI).

To view your prior year AGI (you must use the same account used last year - username and password.

  1. Sign In to your prior year TTO account (if your using a different account from last year, your AGI will not transfer)
  2.  Go to the prior year section of  My Tax Timeline,
  3. Click View adjusted gross income (AGI).

Please see the TurboTax FAQ below for additional instructions:

How do I find last year’s AGI?

You can also obtain a copy of last year's tax transcript online using IRS link: IRS Welcome to get Transcript

Once you obtain your AIG, to make changes before filing:

1.    Sign In to TurboTax Online

2.    Click "My TurboTax" menu

3.    Press "Visit My Tax Timeline"

4.    Under the "SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO" heading, choose "Add a state" (you're not really adding a state, this allows you to get back into your return).

5.    You may now make the corrections to your tax return.

If you find your return has an e-file status and has been filed, the IRS will reject the return and you will be notified by email or you will see by checking your status on the IRS Where's My Refund? site. If that is the case, then you would be able to go in and make any necessary changes to your tax return and resubmit.

You will find the instructions below on how to fix a rejected return:

@CassLO

Thank you for your answer, but I still can't fix anything. I watched the video in the links, but this is all I see:

There is nothing I can click on. What can I do?

Can you click on the "See all my returns" on the right, to get back in? In the image you have posted, it looks like you selected to have your state return mailed, CA State Printed Ready To Mail. In this case, you would need to mail off the printed tax return, or go back and change it to e-file using the link provided below:

How do I change from mail to e-file in TurboTax Online?

Also, if you are going to e-file your State, you will have to wait until your Federal is accepted before you can go into e-file your StateCan I e-file my state return before my federal?

You can check if your return was accepted on your e-file status or by going on the IRS Where's My Refund? site. If the IRS site states no record found, then it has not been accepted yet.

Yes, I was able to do that. I managed to switch to e-file. Thanks!

Now it says pending. I'll just have to wait a few days, then?

I filed, but got emails saying I didn't finish it

I keep getting this email too. When logging into TurboTax online both federal and state electronic filings are accepted. I had to pay federal, which I use the credit card to do. This hit my account two days after I filed. I was owed a return on state taxes which I received four days after filing. But twice I received emails stating that my taxes are not quite finished. The email instructions are to login and click “finish and file.” When I login this is not an option. This concerns me.

I think you have to change your refund option from mail to e-refund, or something like that. I used the solution above and it solved my problem.

I followed those instructions. My filings were set to electronic. There isn’t anything for me to change. I just end up back at the Tax Home screen.

Not sure. Hope it works for you too, though!

You can double check your efile status here

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

When you efile you get back 2 emails.  The first email only confirms the transmission.  The second email says if the IRS (or state) Accepted or Rejected your efile.  Accepted only means they accepted your return FOR Processing.  Not that your return is right.

When you log into your account you should also see the status and if it was Accepted or Rejected, Started, Printed, Ready to Mail, etc.  what does it say?

It might be for another account.  It's common to end up with multiple accounts. First LOG OUT of whatever TurboTax account you're logged into right now. Then use this TurboTax account recovery website to get a list of user ID's for an email address. Run the tool against any email addresses you may have used
