How long after the bank rejects my refund will it take the IRS to issue me a paper check

If you have not already, you need to set up an account with IRS.gov.  Once that is done, you can log in and print a transcript of your tax payments.  Unfortunately, I had to send for a security code which they will mail to you but it takes a week to receive.  If you need help doing this, let me know.  I can send you instructions.

Thanks for the update.  Mine was rejected by my bank on 2/19/21 (even though "Where's My Refund" shows it was deposited at my bank on 2/22/21).  It appears it just might get it when they mail it tomorrow, April 1 (hope that's not an April Fools' joke!).  That would make it 39 days it took to process mine.

Letting everyone know I did in fact receive my federal tax return as a paper check yesterday (4/5/21). My transcript had a re-issue date of 4/1/21. I found it odd that my stimulus issue date was 3/29/21, and I still have not received that, but my tax return mailed after that date was received? Definitely not complaining though! To those of you not familiar with my situation, my tax return was to be DD on 2/22/21, but there was an error in the account number so my CU rejected it. It was sent back that day. The IRS cancelled it on 3/8/21, and re-issued on 4/1/21, it was received 4/5/21. All of the information I got was off of my transcript. WMR and the actual IRS had NO info. Don't bother calling!

So glad to know you got your refund.  My dates were very similar to yours, so here's hoping when the mail arrives this afternoon that mine will be in the mailbox!

Once the financial institution recovers the funds and returns them to the IRS, it can take up to 5 business days for the IRS to receive the funds back. 

Once the IRS receives the funds they will send you a paper check. This can take up to 10 business days for you to receive it. The IRS will send a paper refund check to your last known address on file with the IRS.

Keep an eye on the IRS Where’s My Refund? tool, it should update to show when your paper check has been sent.

The bank rejected it on March 31 according to bank records. Because account is closed. Should I receive something in the mail soon.

If the information you provided is for a closed or invalid account, the government will mail you a refund check. We can only give at best an estimation. It should take approximately the same as a paper-check on an e-filed return depending on IRS processing. Refund processing time is 6 to 8 weeks from the date the IRS receives your tax return. It might be best to speak with the IRS directly for more information.

Your answer is not accurate.  My refund was rejected by my bank on 2/19/21, even though the IRS said it was deposited on February 22nd.  As of today, April 9th, I still have not received my refund by papercheck.  Today, which is April 9th, I finally received a letter from the IRS.  Unfortunately, all it was was a letter (dated April 12th!!!)  confirming my bank rejected it and that it would be another 3-4 weeks before I would receive a paper check.  As of today, it has been 46 days.  Calling the IRS, if you can even get through, was no help.  They only confirmed that my refund had been returned and received and I was told to wait another 6-8 weeks..  Printing my transcript from IRS.gov was no help.  That document said my refund would be mailed on April 1st.  Where's My Refund was no help.  It still indicated my check was deposited on February 22nd.  All had inaccurate information that could not be relied on and appears not to be updated.

UPDATE: Letting everyone know that I finally received my stimulus. What is odd is that my rejected tax refund had a final mail date of 4-1-21, and it arrived 4-5-21. My stimulus had a mail date of 3-29-21 and did not arrive until 4-9-21.

Just a comment before closing this post - the IRS is way behind on processing returns and refunds this tax season, and the USPS has been VERY slow in delivering mail since well before Xmas.  Between the two of them, there has been a lot of anxiety created for taxpayers and postal customers.

We finally received our refund check in the mail TODAY, 4/10!  Yesterday we received a notice from IRS that it would be another 3-4 weeks.  Go figure! 

In total, it took 50 days from the date my bank said they rejected the bank deposit.  If you use the date the IRS gave in the "Where's My Refund" website, it took 47 days.  I am SO grateful we got it today in any event!
