I filed my 2024 return through turbo on Jan 9th. I read the IRS was accepting individual returns Jan 9th. However, it turned out to be a federal holiday. Then I read you can e-file Jan 10th. My return has been submitted but not accepted.

TurboTax allowed you to “e-file” —- but now your return is in pending.
MY RETURN IS IN PENDING—what does that mean?
Did you e-file? Did you click that big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?” If so, your return is now in “pending” on a server. Do not try to change anything while your return is in pending. On January 27 the IRS will begin to accept/reject e-files. Watch your emails—including your spam folder—for the notice about whether your e-file has been accepted or rejected. If your return is rejected you will be able to make corrections before re-filing. If the return you e-filed is accepted you will have to wait until it has been fully processed and then amend it to fix any mistakes or omissions. It has been taking the IRS four to six months—sometimes longer—to process amended returns. If you e-filed your state return there will be another email later that tells you if the state was accepted or rejected.
WARNING: Do not try to change anything on your return while it is pending.
The IRS will start accepting 2024 federal tax returns on January 27.
I received confirmation that it was transmitted to the IRS
@Cg The IRS does not have your e-file yet.
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
I only filed early because turbo tax wassaying you can get the advance, so I thought they were already accepting returns that day when TurboTax was saying that you can file and receive the advance once accepted
and that's "Start" accepting.
.....the waiting mass of files waiting may end up with yours being checked up-to ~ a week later.
Even people submitting after yours may get checked first....because the IRS takes in the waiting files randomly from the TTX computer storage, and randomly from the different software providers too.
Most of us in this forum, recommend never filing until February.....(unless arguing with an ex over claiming children).
Of course, you could get lucky earlier...the IRS does do some test pulls of some files around the week before. And if those work perfectly, they could decide to start before the 27th or 29th or whenever the actually decide to start.
One year, they started.....then stopped for a major issue they discovered too late.
