@Immeg1995 You cannot find out if someone claimed your child. The IRS will not tell you. If your return is being rejected due to a problem with your child's SSN you have to file by mail.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
You cannot find out if someone else entered his SS number on their tax return and the IRS will not tell you.
You will need to verify that the SS number and name are correct from the SS administration since that is where the IRS receives the SS information.
To prevent this rejection next year, call the Social Security Administration (SSA) at 1-800-772-1213 to verify their records (this is where the IRS database pulls information from).
If the IRS continues to reject the tax return after you have verified the name and the SS number are entered exactly as shown on his SS card then you will have to print and mail your tax return.
