@MrCollin

If it is less, you may have had an offset or correction completed by the IRS.  For more details on this, please see this Help Article.

Also, since it has been over 21 days, please review the Help Article here for more details on refunds taking longer than expected.

You will need to contact the IRS to discuss your transcripts.

Please see How do I contact the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)? for more information, including the IRS phone number and hours of operation. You may want to try calling right when they open since they have been very busy throughout the day.

It has been 92 days since I got a notice on 4 April 2022 saying that my refund was being held for further review.  I filed my tax on January 24, 2022 and it was received the same date.  I have yet been able to speak to an IRS person to see why they are still holding my refund.  I just don't understand it.

Code 971 and 570

Same here filed on Jan21st accepted 24th. I havent heard a **bleep** word back from them and there is no reason it should take 6 months to give me my money. Im beyond fed up.

Yes, I am at wits end with this BS.  I got that letter stating they were holding my return for "Further Review" back on April 4, 2022.  They also said they needed and additional 60 days and by the calender it is almost 90 days.  By Work days it is 57 so WTH?  Government is screwing us around.  I did see where someone had said at another site they were getting interest on top of their return.

The IRS is woefully backlogged.  Assume 6-9 months from the time you filed if you paper filed.... if you efiled, it should be quicker - see this link:

https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations-during-covid-19-mission-critical-functions-continue#coll...

And read "what you can expect" - which is updated every Friday

Note the IRS asks in one of the paragraphs not to call them.....in fact I've read the agents don't know anything other than what is on WMR

Also, a must read:

@Rreys90 @MrCollin - the IRS is woefully backlogged..... here is what the IRS website states:

(and the good news, if it is considered good news, is you know the IRS has your return)

How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to December 2021 and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors.  We are continuing to reroute tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, whether it was filed electronically or on paper, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit and the Child Tax Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues could take 90 to 120 days depending on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.

What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s My Refund? or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s My Refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. If you filed before October 2021 and Where’s My Refund? does not have any information, your return has been opened but work on it has not begun. We’re working hard to get through the carryover inventory. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Well the IRS is at their so called 90 days with me.  My patience is about worn out and trying to get ANYONE at the IRS is like expecting my dog to fart on command.  As I said in an earlier post, I filed the day it opened on January 24, 2022.  I got a letter from them April 4, 2022 stating they needed an additional 30 days to resolve the issue.  Well, that has come and gone.  I can promise you, if you owe them even a red cent, they will hound you day and night.  That link on the phone calls?  All it shows me is that they won't answer a phone.

Only the IRS controls when and if a tax refund is Approved and Sent.

Call the IRS:  1-800-829-1040  hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.

So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info).  Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.

Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".

Then press 3 "for all other questions."

Then press 2 "for all other questions."

- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don’t enter anything.

- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.

Then press 4 for all other inquiries.

It should then transfer you to an agent.

Or you can contact your local IRS office.  See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment

Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area.  See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate
