Go up and download the federal pdf file. There is only 1 pdf file and it should have both federal and state in it. State is listed after the federal.
Those choices on the right side are all for federal & state. They don't just go with the one they are near. It is a separate list.
If you have filed the 2022 tax return you will need to wait until the IRS accepts the tax return. The IRS will start accepting tax returns on 01/23/2023
I'm trying to download a former tax return - 2019. There is a place for me to 'click' on download ".tax" file but I can't download it into an actual readable file. I've tried PDF, notepad, nothing works
Why can't you download the pdf? If you download the .tax2019 file you need the 2019 program installed to open it. Call in and ask for the program or you can buy it here,

That's my point, It's not a pdf, its a .tax file. It's a state file from 2019. I should not have to a buy a program to access my records through turbotax.
Well try again to download the pdf. Don't you have the option to get the pdf? Better call in. And the state is in the same file as Federal.

Why is my PDF downloading as a .txt file in Microsoft Edge?
If you're using TurboTax Online, you may experience Microsoft Edge saving the PDF version of your tax file as a .txt file.
Solution
There are two ways to solve this issue:
In the EDGE download...those are really just PDF files, that's why they look funny.
Sorry, I'm not being clear. There is no option to download the PDF as there is to the federal return. There is no option to convert or save or print as PDF when it downloads. The only thing that shows and downloads (to nothing readable) is a .tax file. The ONLY option is "Download .tax file". It tries to open but says it's an unsupported or damaged file. It won't allow for file changes or saving as new doc types. It isn't a PDF to begin with.
So when you click on the DOWNLOAD PDF option you don't get a PDF file ? Do you get a .TXT file or a .TAX2019 file ? If you get a .TXT file read my last post.

@Critter-3 Thanks. Was thinking of another user with this type of issue. I'll remove my answer.

Brilliant - thank you. Didn't even think to look.
Go up and download the PDF file? Go up where? There is no place I can find to get any file downloaded
