I am attempting to amend my 2020 federal taxes for a missed second home mortgage interest deduction. I had e-filed my taxes. When I open TT I select my 2020 file. I then get a dialogue box that says "Your federal tax return is now on this computer. Let's go get your Illinois state forms next. Error: 190"
The dialogue box has an option to download my state forms or cancel. I did not use TT to do my state forms. How do i get just my federal taxes to load so that I can use TT to amend? I am not able to get past this error message.

Well it thinks there is a state return in your .tax2022 file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).
Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
After you get the state program downloaded you can close the fake return and open the real .tax file. Just go up to File-Open and try to open your return. It will either show up in the box to Continue or you can browse to where it is.
Thanks, but this is not a solution as it expects me to pay $45 to download the state return.
Because you are in the Basic version. It doesn't come with the free state. Call in and ask for the state download for 2020.

Did you get a solution to this glitch?
If you want to Amend a 2020 State Return that was not filed with TurboTax, you will either need to do so manually, or download the State into your 2020 TurboTax File to Amend it using TurboTax.
If you choose to do this, you'll have to enter all your state info from your original filing in order to Amend.
