Hello,

I sent my tax files to IRS 3weeks ago(mail, not e file), but I haven’t received yet.

Can you track my tax refund process?

Thanks,

Justin

No one here can track your refund, you are the only one that can do that.  Were your returns accepted?  Once your returns are accepted, only the IRS & State would know when you will receive your refund.  TurboTax does not get any updates regarding the processing of your return or when you will receive your refund.

You can checked the IRS website Where's My Refund for your Federal information?

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

If you have a State refund, click on the following link, then click on your State

https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/refund-status/help

----------------------------------------------

From the IRS:

It's been longer than 21 days since the IRS received my return and I haven’t gotten my refund. Why?

Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons, including when a return:

  • Includes errors
  • Is incomplete
  • Is affected by identity theft or fraud
  • Includes a claim filed for an Earned Income Tax Credit or an Additional Child Tax Credit. See Q&A below.
  • Includes a Form 8379, Injured Spouse Allocation, which could take up to 14 weeks to process
  • Needs further review in general

We will contact you by mail when we need more information to process your return.

You can also contact the IRS about your refund if it has been over 21 days (business days)  since your return has been accepted.

The IRS telephone number is 1-800-829-1040, and they are available from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday thru Friday. The best time to call is early in the morning.

- The first question the automated system will ask you is to choose your language.
- Once you’ve set your language, do NOT choose Option 1 (regarding refund info). Choose option 2 for “Personal Income Tax” instead.
- Next, press 1 for “form, tax history, or payment”.
- Next, press 3 “for all other questions.”
-Next, press 2 “for all other questions.”
- When the system asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, do NOT enter anything.
-After it asks twice, you will be prompted with another menu.
-Finally, press 2 for personal or individual tax questions. The system should then transfer you to an agent.

@Medianoche21 Did you read the reply that is directly above your own post in this thread?   No one at TurboTax can speed up the IRS for you or find out about your refund.   You have to check the IRS refund site yourself.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2021 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

https://www.irs.gov/refunds

To track your state refund:

@Triplej3b - suggest calling your state revenue office; Turbo tax would not have information on the status of your state tax return.

@airwavenow TurboTax has no control over the IRS.  TT does not receive any information from the IRS after you file your tax return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

OR——if you filed by mail, expect a long wait.   It is taking the very backlogged IRS six to nine months to process mailed returns.   Until a human opens your envelope and enters the data into the system, nothing will even show up on the refund site, so you will have to be very patient.

When will I get my federal taxes refunded

Once you submit your return, it takes about 24-48 hours for the IRS to either accept or reject it.  Once accepted, the IRS issues most refunds in about 21 days.  Refer to the following Help Article for more information:  When will I get my IRS tax refund?

@Elisiag31 Not quite sure what your very short post means----are you looking for information about your 2022 refund?     Or are you looking for help with preparing your tax return?

Federal and state refunds come from completely separate entities.  There is no rule as to which one will come in first or how long it will be between their arrival in your account.

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  “21 days”  is not a promise from TurboTax or the IRS.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2025 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

Note:  “Accepted” is not the same as “approved”.  TurboTax tells you the e-file was accepted if the IRS deems that there is enough information on the return for them to take it in for processing.   Only the IRS can approve of the refund, which is a later stage of processing.  If the IRS approves your refund they will provide a date for the refund to be issued.

FROM THE IRS WHERE’S MY REFUND SITE:

https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund

How it works

Where's My Refund shows your refund status:

  • Return Received – We received your return and are processing it.
  • Refund Approved – We approved your refund and are preparing to issue it by the date shown.
  • Refund Sent – We sent the refund to your bank or to you in the mail. It may take 5 days for it to show in your bank account or several weeks for your check to arrive in the mail.
