My federal tax was filed by H&R Block and accepted, but I need to file state taxes. Software won't allow me to file state. How can I correct?

I need to file state taxes. I paid extra for electronic e-file (what a ripoff), but TurboTax will not file because it says federal was rejected. Federal was filed by H&R, and accepted. At this point I would like a full refund on everything including original purchase. Tell me how to correct the problem and e-file my state taxes without the federal.

You need to request a refund of the software purchased from TurboTax or print and mail the state tax return.  If you attempt to e-file the federal tax return using TurboTax, it will be rejected by the IRS since another tax return with your name and Social Security number has already been received by the IRS.

Go to this website to request a refund of the software purchase - https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/forms/refund-request.jsp

Using tax preparation software you have to either e-file the federal and state tax returns at the same time or e-file the state return after the federal return has been e-filed and accepted by the IRS.  If the federal return was not e-filed using TurboTax then the state return cannot be e-filed, only printed and mailed.

If you paid for the state e-file fee of $19.99 you will need to contact TurboTax support to have the credit card charge reversed.
