If you know your earnings from Uber and are not expecting a 1099-misc or 1099-k, you can enter the income as ''Additional income" under the 'self-employment income and expenses' section of TurboTax.  Sign in to your TurboTax account and click on 'Take Me to My Return'.  Then:

  • Click on Federal (left side)
  • Click on Wages & Income (top)
  • Scroll down until you see 'Self-employment income and expenses' (you may need to click See All Income)
  • Click Edit/Add to enter or change your business info
  • Set-up your business if you have not already
  • Click Add Income
  • Choose Additional Income and enter the amount on the following screen with UBER as description
  • Answer YES to Do you want to deduct business expenses?

How do i input my tax summary from uber even though it is not a tax form?

On the following screen titled (immediately after your screen shot) "Tell us about additional income for your Rideshare driving work", do I put the Gross Earnings ($1,517) from Uber or my Net Payout ($974)?

You can either use Net (easiest) or if you are going to deduct all your expenses individually, use Gross then enter all of your expense deductions.  You can only do option 2 in TT Self-Employed/Home & Biz.  If you are using any other product, use Net and don't enter your expenses separately.

Thank you for the reply. So to summarize, your saying use net but then don't take any deductions? I was going to deduct my mileage.

You can still deduct vehicle expenses using either amount.  But, if you use the ''net'' figure, do not deduct the expenses that are included in the ''Expenses, fees, and taxes'' section on the Uber Summary since you will have already deducted them by using the ''net'' amount.  If you use ''gross'' earnings, you can deduct the ''Expenses taxes and fees'' on your tax return & vehicle mileage.

For the 'expenses/taxes/fees' on your Uber Summary, using the net amount allows TT users to be able to use the Deluxe or Premier versions of the program (business deductions are not supported).  If you want to deduct any business deductions on your return (fees, or taxes, or mileage), you have to upgrade to Self-Employed or Home and Biz.   I hope I am clarifying and not confusing;)
