It may be that your Federal refund wasn't enough to cover your TurboTax fees. If you choose to pay TurboTax fees from your refund, there is a $40 charge for that.

In order to pay for TurboTax using your refund:

• Your federal refund must be enough to cover your TurboTax fees.
• You must have a US address.
• You have to e-file.
• The name on the bank account needs to match the name on the tax return.
• You'll need to direct deposit your refund into a single account.

If you owe taxes to your state, you won't be able to pay for the state taxes from your Federal refund. The state tax agencies are completely separate from the IRS.
