Why can't I use the itemized form if I'm a home owner? TurboTax wants to charge me, but they advertise it's free, Why is this?

If you need to enter itemized deductions like mortgage interest, you cannot use the Free Edition. The Free version is only for simple returns that can be prepared on a 1040EZ or a 1040A. Itemized deductions require that you prepare a "long form" Form 1040, which means you need a higher PAID version of the software like Deluxe.

There is also the Tax Freedom website which is total free for federal and state and has more forms and schedules. But you have to have a low income to qualify.
