I cannot file return for California, tells me it's not ready -- it just only lets me save and this isn't my first time using TurboTax. I have always been able to submit both at the same time.
Hello. I live in CT and it won’t let me file my state return. I think it says something about the form not being ready. I was able to edible my federal. I’m still waiting for that to be accepted. I’m just hoping that the state doesn’t mess up the federal.
This is a common theme in January—the state is open for e-filing, but you can’t file yours because a form isn’t ready yet. Forms which changed have to be redesigned graphically, and the technology reconfigured— not only in their system, but also in the interface between them and us. (But rest assured that everyone is scrambling behind the scenes to get this done!)
In this case, both California and Connecticut are indeed open for e-filing. Neither of you (@doppleganger, @Steveq0196) mentioned a specific form which might be the bottleneck, but you can check on availability here (for California) and here (for Connecticut). (Also, your federal e-file goes directly to the IRS, not through the state first, so there should be no problem with that one because you had to wait on the state.) I hope you’re able to file soon!
The form is CT 1040 which it looks like will be ready tomorrow I think. Thank you for your help. Either which way it won’t hold up my federal right?
(You’re very welcome!) The federal and state returns are a completely separate process (even though they can be filed “piggyback,” in which case they’re just bundled together on the way). Hopefully you’ll get the federal e-file acceptance e-mail shortly, but the state situation will definitely not affect that at all.
Awesome. My federal return was a lot more than my state so that’s good. I have used hrblock online for the last 3 years and this year I figured I would try turbo tax and see if I can get back more. There was a 400 dollar difference in favor of turbo tax so I will def keep using them moving forward. Thanks for everything and have a great day.
(Oh no—never use those guys!) I'm glad tax season is going better this year. You have a great day also, Steve! (@Steveq0196)
Thank you -- I have been using Turbo Tax for sometime so this is a first for me to have experienced this but as silly as it sounds, the tax window just opened up so I wouldn't be surprised if I gave it sometime. Normally I do federal first then State last. Thanks guys!
Thank you, doppleganger!
i have finish my taxes it won't transmit my return
For trouble with transmitting returns, please see this Help Article: What if Transmit Returns doesn't work?
Today I was not aware that, in order to easily e-file my State Return, I needed to e-file it with my Federal Return.
I read that I had to wait until the Federal Return was ACCEPTED before I could e-file the State Return. Federal Return was shortly accepted - but I still can not e-file my State Return.
I closed the TURBOTAX software and restarted it – and again, only the FEDERAL RETURN is shown for e-filing – even though I already e-filed it and it was accepted.
Although Turbotax noted that most people file both returns together, Turbotax should have also provided more detailed information - BEFORE I submitted to e-file my Federal Tax Return - about efiling the State Return separately from Federal.
So, ultimately, it seems that either both Federal and State must be e-filed together OR State must be mailed. Disappointing.
I am also unable to get past this error message highlighted below regarding my Massachusetts filing for 2022.
"Tax-Exempt Pension should not be entered directly on Form 1 for State Electronic Filing." I entered the 1099-R on my Federal Return and I even tried to delete it on my State because it says it shouldn't be entered on Form 1. "
How do I delete from State Form 1?
How can I finalize my return for Massachusetts?
Thank you.
Are you wanting to tax a pension distribution on the Federal 1040 tax return and not be taxed by Massachusetts on the state tax return?
You may qualify for the pension adjustment at this screen in the Massachusetts state income tax return. This screen will make an adjustment on Massachusetts Form 1.
Or are you referring to some other form of ‘tax-exempt pension’?
You are able to remove a form by:
The Federal has been ACCEPTED. I'm trying now to EFile the state and it want let me.
