Why am I asked to pay when I have a simple return of just SS Income, no tax or deductions or credits

It says fees will be determined 'at time of filing' well, NO, you determine my fees now, thank you. I was charged last year for free filing and had to contest it. TT is not honest. And this year they said we're sending you a link for the free file and they never did. Same as last year, apologized for the charge but then never refunded me.

You should be able to use the Free online edition if you only have SS income.

However, if the Social Security benefits are the only income to report on the tax return there is no need to file, unless you have taxes withheld from the SS benefits.

If you have not paid for the online edition you are using, have not filed your tax return or registered the Free edition, then you can clear your return and start over with a lower priced edition. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the program screen while working on the 2022 online tax return. Click on Clear & Start Over.
