Your federal tax return goes to a different location depending on the state that you live in and whether or not you have a payment due. See this list to determine the location for you. Where to File Paper Tax Returns (irs.gov)
The same is true for Massachusetts. See this list to determine the mailing address based on your situation: Mailing Addresses for Massachusetts Tax Forms
This is a known problem and have been informed it should be fixed on 02/22/2025.
Go to this IRS website for the federal tax return mailing address, by state, with and without a tax payment - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment
Go to this Massachusetts website for the state tax return mailing address - https://www.mass.gov/info-details/mailing-addresses-for-massachusetts-tax-forms#mailing-addresses-
The is no specific information on the instruction page except the mailing address for the federal retrun. There is no information on what specific supporting documentation is required to be atached and in what order.
It is the same for the State of Massachusetts return except that in addition the addres id not identifed. This is different from past years.
Additionally, I tried to efile my federal and it gave me the "success" message then the notice it failed to transmit. After several attempts I decided to just mail it in, even though the "review" indicated there were no errors and I could efile. I have a tax situation that requires me to mail in my Mass State Taxes.
This is a bit frustrationg, because Turbo Tax isn't cheap. I expect better results.
I have the same situation. I completed my taxes 2 months ago but waited to efile since I owed. Now that I completed them, I was surprised to see that I have to mail them because of some tax situation (which wasnt specified what that was). Ive never had this happen before and I have the simplest taxes.
The only thing that I did differently this year was purchase the cheaper option. So, I guess that's what happens when you try to only pay for what you need. I'll be using another service next year.
My wife is a retired teacher, I was able to efile the federal and we owed federal, due a refund from state. Could not efile the state due to something with the Mass Teachers Retirement, not sure specifically what it was. Mailed our state about 3 weeks ago and got our refund about 3 days ago. Mailed the state return to the address indicated on the state web site. (No help from TurboTax) I printed the return and attached all the W2's, 1099's and church donation. Apparently successful as I got my refund. Good luck! First time turbo tax has let me down.
