Yes there is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) to have the fees deducted from a federal refund. So pay upfront with a credit card to avoid the extra charge.

I went to pay up front and that fee is still there. Oh wait, I had to click on Accept Payment button at bottom, THEN the page refreshed and removed it.
If you have selected the "Pay with My Refund" to pay your TurboTax fees, there will be an additional $40 processing fee that is charged by the third-party bank that handles the transaction. If your return is in pending or accepted status, it will be too late to remove the fee.

Besides, I already paid my "TurboTax fees" (the charge for buying TurboTax?), so I'm still not sure why I would be charged $40 for anything at all. @bmerenbloom If you bought the Desktop program there still are other fees. Mainly there is a $20 or 25 fee to efile a state return or you can print and mail state for free. Then if you choose to have the fee deducted from your refund there is an Extra $40 Refund Processing Service charge (45 in California) for the 3rd party bank to take the fees out which you can avoid by paying the fee upfront with a credit card.
