While you can probably file anyway, I would wait for a corrected copy. If you still work at that employer they may be able to correct the problem quickly and just hand it to you. Otherwise you'll have to wait for the mail, or go pick it up.

If you're filing through Turbo Tax, you don't need to send in your W-2's to the IRS, so it won't matter for filing. But... should you ever get audited you'll want a corrected copy.

This response conflicts somewhat with those given here:

What if my employer spelled my name on my w-2 wrong but my SSN is correct, can I still file or do need to wait for a corrected copy

My name is misspelled on my W-2. I worked for the company in Reno, NV, and am now in Albuquerque, NM, leaving for Australia with my wife and daughter on March 13th. My wife is from Australia born and raised. What do I do about filing my taxes? I also received a text message from my former employer relative [Name removed} that a 1099 needs to be generated under GR & Sons Inc. for the year 2022 (EIN {removed}) for the following 2 people. What if I never received the 1099 just the amount, do I need to claim it?

1. If the first 5 letters of your last name are correct along with the social security number, you can file. If you need a corrected form, it can be mailed or encrypted and sent digitally.

2. Yes. Income earned must be reported. The IRS is getting the form whether you do or not. You do not want to have a problem with the IRS since you could be moving about.
