Th software uses the date of birth you enter in MY INFO. It goes by your age as of the end of 2024. If you are 65 or older, your return will print out on a Form 1040SR. Form 1040 and Form 1040SR are identical except that 1040SR has bigger print. Everything else is the same. The lines and calculations are identical. If you are 65 or older you get higher standard deduction, which will appear on line 12 of your tax form.
The standard deduction makes some of your income “tax free.” It is not a refund. You will see your standard or itemized deduction amount on line 12 of your 2024 Form 1040.
2024 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $14,600 (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $14,600 (65 or older/legally blind + $1550)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $29,200 (65 or older/legally blind + $1550)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $21,900 (65 or older/legally blind + $1950)
As you enter your info and forms like W2 and 1099R you are filling out the 1040 or 1049-SR. You automatically get the 1040SR if you or your spouse is 65 or older. And Turbo Tax automatically gives you the Standard Deduction unless your itemized deductions are more.
The 1040SR is EXACTLY the same as the regular 1040 just bigger type so it prints on 3 pages instead of 2. And the Standard Deduction is on page 4. They both use the same instructions and tax calculations.

The Standard Deduction is on 1040 line 12. For 2024 the standard deduction amounts are:
Single 14,600+1,950 for 65 and over or blind
HOH 21,900 + 1,950 for 65 and over or blind
Joint 29,200 + 1,550 for each 65 and over or blind (both 32,300)
Married filing Separate 14,600 + 1,550 for 65 and over or blind
Oh, When you print it will print on the 1040SR even if you see only the 1040 on the screen. You automatically get the 1040SR if you or your spouse is 65 or older. In the Desktop program you can tell it which one to print.

Would care to elaborate on exactly what problems you are having or are needing to do with the Federal Tax Return, Form 1040-SR and Standard Deductions?
The Form 1040-SR and the Form 1040 are exactly the same form. The Form 1040-SR just has larger type.
The Standard Deduction is on the Form 1040 Line 11
Standard deductions for 2024
Single - $14,600 add $1,950 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Separately - $14,600 add $1,550 if age 65 or older
Married Filing Jointly - $29,200 add $1,550 for each spouse age 65 or older
Head of Household - $21,900 add $1,950 if age 65 or older
QUESTION - I am a senior, but I do NOT want to print the 3-page Form 1040-SR. How do I force TurboTax to create (print) a 2-page Form 1040?
If you are using the Desktop program and look at it in Forms Mode it shows the 1040 but if you print it out it will be the 1040SR. There is a way to force the one you want. You can turn off the 1040 SR and save it as the regular 1040 form. Switch to Forms Mode and open the Info Wks. Scroll down to Part II Address and Federal Filing Status. There is Print Form 1040-SR instead of Form 1040 - Yes or No.
If you really want to use the regular 1040 in the Online version, you can print your return and copy the amounts into a blank 1040 (link below) from the 1040SR. But then you will have to print and mail it.
