TurboTax will not know anything about your mailed return, and will continue to show “Ready to Mail” on your account.  TurboTax will not know that you put your tax return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.  TurboTax does not get updates on mailed returns.  Wait about 4 weeks from when you mail a return and then you can check the status on the IRS site. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

In the future, if you mail a tax return (or a payment) to the IRS, it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail so you will know it was received.

You did not mention that you sent it certified.  Many people do not do that and then do not know if the return was received.  So--not "duh."

Sometimes people get confused by the “summary” given by TurboTax and use the wrong amount for the federal refund.  Make sure you are only using the federal refund amount, and not an amount that combined your federal and state refunds.

Your federal refund amount is on line 20a of your Form 1040

Usually you will see information about a mailed return within about 4 weeks, but it can take longer.  The IRS is understaffed. Mailed returns are processed by humans.

You probably know this but many people didn't.  Did you mail federal and state in separate envelopes?  They go to different places.  Some people mailed them both in the same envelope to the state.

Yes I have been thinking about that all night and I bet that's what I did mailed them both to the state what should I do?

If you mailed both returns to the state then the state most likely shredded or discarded the federal return.  That means your federal return was not filed at all.   You need to print it again and mail it to the IRS.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing after the April 15 deadline.
