USAA Credit Card Transactions not Updating on mint.com

@kangascherer2 Are you thinking this is a Mint problem?  Screen scrapping is a common method to gather information from a site. It prevents the need for field mapping and notification when a field layout changes.

This is due to a change USAA made, not Mint. That would be like asking the mechanic to fix your gas engine because you put diesel in the gas tank.

I have still yet to speak to anyone at USAA (including the office of the CEO staff) that acknowledge this is a problem. They have said they don't support third party budget tools other than Quicken but I believe Quicken is also broke (I don't have, so I can't say for sure).

I called USAA after 4 chats with mint. Here is what they (USAA) told me: “mint is not using the latest API (application programming interface)" and therefore mint cannot get updated credit card info. I passed this along on a mint chat (after 4 previous chats) on Oct 17...still no answer, so I again logged into a chat and this is what mint rep said:

"I do apologize for any inconvenience that this issue may be causing, but I am confident that our team will get
this resolved. We do just need a bit more time to investigate the issue further and implement a proper solution.
As of right now it does seem as if I will need to re-escalate this issue for you back to our devs and appreciate
your time and patience with us on this issue. "

Thanks for that update!  I consider this to be very good news.  Trying to put it all together, it sounds like, in the past, Mint has simply used screen-scraping to get all the transaction data from USAA accounts.  USAA recently implemented a bunch of changes to their interface, making it difficult (even intentionally so) for Mint or others to continue to collect the transaction data in that manner.  INSTEAD, they have implemented an API and made it available for Mint (and similar services) to use (the good news!).  This is far better than screen scraping, because it doesn't break every time they make some small change to the page (which can be very frustrating and time intensive).  If this is true, then it might require a decent amount of effort on the part of MINT developers to implement changes to use USAA's API to make everything work.  That would be why there was finger pointing back and forth, initially, and it would make sense of why USAA was saying - "We are not going to allow any more screen scraping."  The good news for us (customers) would be that it may just be a matter of time until Mint comes around and makes the needed changes.  In the past, I've never seen USAA just disregard the needs of customers like it was appearing they were doing with all of this, so I really hope this is what is going on.

If USAA implemented better security and new API updates, kudos to them, I'd rather be more secure than continue with old technology for my bank accounts.

Back in February of 2018, USAA announced such a move: https://techchannel.com/Enterprise/01/2018/usaa-integrates-applications-and-data
The way this should have worked, USAA would publish these changes, and it would be incumbent upon users of their site to update their connection methods.

Finicity seems to bhave done this: https://www.finicity.com/blog/data-sharing-usaa-direct-api/
Seems this cooperation failed with Mint, or Mint does not have the resources to keep up.

Customer support has been atrocious in reading these messages, but in the end, it is Mint's responsibility to fix this. If USAA is intentionally blocking Mint, that's a C-Level problem, Mint's CEO needs to reach out and resolve.
Otherwise, it appears to be a big developer update for Mint to implement RESTful APIs, rather than old screen scraping methods - that have been around for decades.

BTW, Mint says I have "Days of history: 7985"and I've had USAA since 1986. Although I can't seem to find transactions from 21 years ago, I am invested in this problem in this issue!

USAA Credit Card Transactions not Updating on mint.com

Just for fun, while this job seems to have been filled, I ran across this job posting for a "Third Party Relationship Manager Lead - Bank" for USAA.

Just struck me as a little dark humor: https://www.themuse.com/jobs/usaa/t[product key removed]ionship-manager-lead-bank-d741dc

USAA Credit Card Transactions not Updating on mint.com

Hi

I found a Mint employee on LinkedIn who might be able to help. Here's what I messaged him when asking to Connect:

"Apparently, USAA installed new software blocking Mint from "screen scraping" USAA CC data from their web site. It's affecting a lot of USAA Mint customers (including me) and I hope you can pass this issue to the right people to your support staff.  Thanks PS BTW I love Mint!"

Here's his Linkedin Contact infor:

USAA Credit Card Transactions not Updating on mint.com

I will be cancelling several of my USAA accounts tomorrow.  If they changed the API to integrate with other companies, they should have at least let the members know of the potential impact to them.  I will keep the CC account so that it will not impact my credit score, but I will not use the card.  Will be closing my annuity account and some of the checking and savings accounts.  I don't understand how they claim that it was best for the member?  They are still allowing screen scraping for the checking and saving accounts.

This is due to USAA credit card transactions not showing up. It’s a known issue and has been for months (argh) But you can contact support to change from inactive to active or update yourself.

USAA Credit Card Transactions not Updating on mint.com

I have done this a few times. It won’t fix your issue. And for me, it deleted many transactions and drastically changed my 2022 budget (according to mint)

Plaid can ingest USAA data with no problems so it is not USAA's fault.  Mint is being lazy and needs to adjust to the new API.  They have done it before with other company's....

A decade of use and I am about to jump ship if something doesn't get corrected.  It saddens me that Mint is being so lazy about this....

I agree! I’ve been using mint since 2011. I have not found anything comparable (free or paid) and hope they get it together soon.
