Hi,
Could someone help here? I am really frustrated by Turbotax's support and inefficient help here.
I have a rental property, I put total rental days to be 365, and put 0 days for personal used in schedule E. But when I tried to file my return, it kept showing error that the personal used days is also 365 days, which means the total rental days + personal used days are more than 365 days and not allowing me to file the return.
I have called turbotax specialist 3 hours last week, they said they will do further investigation and provide a solution, today i got the email on the solution, and the advice is to delete the whole rental form, it took me more than 3 hours to put together the rental form, it is really frustrating to delete and redo the form, plus it is still not guaranteed to fix the issue. And it is really not my fault at all.
I am really disappointed with Turbotax's product and support now. Could someone help here? Thanks sooo much!

2020 was a leap year with 366 days.
yes, sorry for the typo, 366 days, but the issue still not solved..
This experience should be resolved by taking the following actions. Your rental property is used 100% for business based on your comments. The Property General Information is where the change must take place.

Hi,
Thanks soo much for the detailed reply, this is what i tried with the agent over phone for 3 hours last week, but still when i tried to file the return, it shows the personal used days as 365 and would not allow me to file the return. What should I do here? Thanks a lot for your help!
One additional comment to confirm - You must say 'Yes' to the questions it was rented every single day in 2020 always rented at fair rental price. And if you go back through the days rented section, you can indicate 'I did not rent' box. to clear the boxes. Then uncheck and enter the correct days rented and personal use days if necessary.
Since you are using TurboTax Online (Premier), these are the exact steps that should have provided resolution.
Be sure you clear the cache and cookies which does miraculously clear up many pieces of information that your software should forget. I prefer not to instruct you to delete the rental activity to re-enter but it is an option that may prove to be less time consuming.
Please update if you need more assistance.

Thanks so much.
1. i have tried clear cache and cookie, still did not work.
2. To your suggestion "You must say 'Yes' to the questions it was rented every single day in 2020 always rented at fair rental price. And if you go back through the days rented section, you can indicate 'I did not rent' box. to clear the boxes. ". Where should i indicate "I did not rent"? For any the days related field, it did not allow me to put text, i can only put a number.
3. Wondering if we can get on a call so that i can show you the error, to make it easier? Thanks sooo much for your help again!
Unfortunately, we are not able to connect with you via a phone call, only through answering questions here.
The days rented and the question about whether or not you attempted to rent the property are found by first going to the Rental Info section and editing those details. Then, look under Rental Type and Usage and edit the Days Used section. One word of caution, if you check the box that you did not attempt to rent the property at all during 2020 and continue forward, then your property information will be deleted from your return.
I would suggest going through the Rental Type and Usage and Days Used sections a few times, changing your answers around until you see an entry that may indicate that the personal use days was inadvertently entered as 365. Make sure no matter what combination of answers is used that the personal use number of days is always either blank or a zero. Then, if you find an instance where the personal use number of days was entered as something other than zero or a blank and you make the correction, move forward through your return to 'save' that answer. Then come back to the rental section and answer those questions one more time to be sure that everything for your particular situation is entered.
If this does not help, please share what type of property you have indicated that you are renting. Is it a single family home, multi-family, vacation or short-term, etc.?
If you still cannot fix this by manipulating the entries, you have two last resorts. One would be to delete the property and start again. The second option would be to change from using the online version of the program to one of the CD/downloaded versions. Your tax data file can be transferred and the erroneous data can be more easily changed in Forms Mode of the CD/downloaded version.
Thanks a lot for the details! Tried multiple times, still did not work, my property type is: single family house. Thanks in advance!
Also i found the issue is only with state tax not with federal, i have filed federal tax return successfully, how can i fix for the state tax part now? Thanks a lot!
Another interesting thing, i e-filed federal tax, and since i could not e-file state tax due to this issue, i selected the option to file by mail, when i printed the state tax return PDF, i can see the data is correct - personal day use is 0, but somehow turbotax does not allow me to e-file, what is the exact issue here? I still try to e-file to save tons of effort to file by mail, thanks for your help!
I am facing the same exact issue as well. I rented my property 365 days in 2023 and for some reason when I am trying to submit the form, the state tax review fails and it says Days Rented plus days of personal use must be equal to or less than the total days in the year. And it has taken 350 days value for personal use. Not even sure where its getting this value from. I have tried editing the rental info form again and even tried saying I didn't rent all the days and then in the actual days I said 365 days rented and 0 personal use. But it still showing the same error.
Any help? I certainly don't want to file my mail.
It may be beneficial to have a diagnostic copy of your tax return to try to solve this issue for you. You can help by providing that diagnostic tax file.
The diagnostic file will not contain personally identifiable information, only numbers related to your tax forms. If you would like to provide us with the diagnostic file, follow the instructions below and post the token number along with which version of TurboTax you are using and which state you are filing in a follow-up thread.
Use these steps if you are using TurboTax Online:
If you are using a CD/downloaded version of TurboTax, use these steps:
If you do not wish to share your tax file, please respond with the state that you are filing and someone may be able to help.
I have the exact same issue. Same last year, but somehow fixed it. It shows personal days for 365 and o for rented. Intuit needs to fix this problem. Next year I'll be using something else.
