list the dependents you want to claim and their birthdays under "dependents".
Do you mean that you received the 3rd EIP payment last year based on a child you claimed on a 2020 return----the payment the IRS sent out in a hurry in ADVANCE for 2021? And you are not claiming that child again on your 2021 tax return? But you are claiming a child (a different child) on your 2021 tax return? You do not have to pay back the $1400 you got for the child they paid you for based on your 2020 return, but you do not get the $1400 again for the other child. It's a wash.
But you should get the child tax credit for your child who was born in 2021.
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
And you get to claim your new daughter for the WHOLE year! Go back and check that under My Info.
If you had a child born in 2021- Add them under My Info. You need to answer 2 questions…..
Did your child live with you for the whole year? Answer YES even if they were born late in the year (even on Dec 31).
Then was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO.
