TurboTax is the worst all they want is money and don’t help you at all, they cost you money right and left and then let the government take you over the coals and laugh at you if you need help and ask for more money

If you describe the problem you are having then someone should be able to help you.
you can always post your questions here to see if someone can help. most taxpayers that use TT that have issues are usually do to errors in entering info, misunderstanding of the question, misplaced decimal points. and even ither TP's filing before you do and incorrectly claiming dependents. however, there are some taxpayers that would be better served by paying a professional.
I totally agree... and am trying to figure out how to warn the community. This software sucks!
I agree. The quality of the software gets worse every year. It is filled with bugs and errors. I'd bet anything they are using an undisciplined AGILE -like environment to code their software: no requirements, no verification or test... just code and distribute, fix problems on the fly. I'm going back to Tax Cut or other software program next year.
Yes, I found a mistake in TurboTax and reported it. Who knows if they will fix it.
It is in the section where you are calculating withholding per quarter to see if you can remove your underpayment penalty. They show dates from Jan to April, then from April to JULY instead of April to JUNE. Then the next quarter is JULY to Sep, vs JUNE to Sep. If you check IRS forms and documentation, or even use any other software like FreeTaxUSA, you will see them using the correct dates (June).
I even got on a live chat with TurboTax and the person on the chat session was *clueless*. They kept trying to insist I needed someone to explain it to me - LOL! I was doing them a FAVOR by telling them about the error in their software. If people follow the date ranges they give, it will screw up their penalty calculations.
This is very bad. The IRS will potentially catch it and it will be TurboTax's fault.
@kalyson The IRS Form 2210 Underpayment of Estimated Tax for tax year 2023 has not been finalized in TurboTax.
The form is scheduled to be available on 01/24/2024 (subject to change)
Go to this TurboTax website for forms availability - https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
Those dates are not in question. They've been the same dates since the 1960's.
TurboTax uses the same dates as the IRS Form 2210 Schedule AI
IRS Form 2210 AI tax year 2023 -
TurboTax desktop edition 2023-
That is NOT the form I am referring to. LOL!
Here are some screen shots to help you out. The first one is Turbo Tax. Second is IRS. Third is FreeTaxUSA.
The IRS screen shot is form 2210, btw.
So, what is the recommended solution to TTAX asking for allocations for date ranges different than the IRS? My RMDs and associated taxes withheld were on 7/19 and 9/23. I had calculated and entered the Tax Withheld and Pensions based on TTAX dates (1/1-4/15, 4/15-7/15, 7/16-9/15, 9/6-12/31). Do I redo them for IRS dates (1/1-3/31, 1/1-5/31, 1/1-8/31, 1/1-12/31) since the allocations and subsequent calculations would be different? I suppose I can redo and compare if there's any difference in penalties.
I am using Free Tax USA and they don't have that error. If you prefer TurboTax, you can use the real quarter dates that the IRS uses and put the amounts into the corresponding quarters - Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4, regardless of the dates that TTax shows specifically.
It very likely will report it in the correct quarter, even if the dates they are showing are wrong for each quarter.
This is something you can test because you could input the same data into another program that you know works (like Free Tax USA) and compare the penalties it calculates to see if they are the same as Turbo Tax. If they are, you know that just using the right quarters in TTax works. If they are different, you will probably want to contact TTax to get them to fix it.
