Turbotax says my unemployment 1099-G needs review, but I can not find anything wrong. I have deleted it and entered again. How do I bypass this review error?

I even cleared and reentered the entire return and still it says the 1099-G needs review.

Please send a diagnostic copy of your tax return to TurboTax so they can investigate this problem. In the diagnostic copy, all SSNs, names, addresses, and other personal info will be replaced with generic info.

To send a diagnostic copy in TurboTax Online:

  • Click Tax Tools in the menu on the left.
  • Click Tools.
  • Click "Share my file with Agent."
  • Click OK.
  • Write down the token number and post it in this thread.

Also, if possible, please post a screen shot of the screen that says "Needs review."

Thanks for helping to troubleshoot this problem.

try this.

delete the address information on your 1099-G

enter the zip-code first.

let TurboTax pick the city and state.

Another user posted a solution that worked for them.  Give it a try to see if it works for you -

I had this problem and after many rechecks that the info I entered was correct,  I was able to file by clicking CONTINUE every time it prompted me to review the 1099G. After a few times it stopped asking me to review and I was able to complete my e-file.
I was able to file even though the program still showed the message needs review.

DontWorry138 - you did not indicate what your issue is - is it your 1099-G?

I looked at your 1099-G, and the Review showed 2 things:

1. you did not enter the state in the state filed (as in city/state/zip). If that field is empty on your 1099-G, then enter the state that it should be, i.e, the state from which you received the 1099-G.

2. Your federal withholding on the 1099-G is 80% of what you received on the 1099-G, and the state withholding is the other 20% of what you received on the 1099-G. Is this correct?

Once you address item 1, you should be able to go through the Review without fixing item 2 and still file (I can't speak to the other issues).

Does this work for you?

Is there a way to contact you, I put the location, the issue that keeps popping up is that TurboTax is saying the the amount withheld isn’t correct

This message about the federal withholding of XXX being more than half the unemployment compensation is in Smart Check, right? The thing about this message is that it is a warning message, because it's true that the withholding is very large proportionally so TurboTax wants you to ensure that there's not a typo either on the withholding or on the unemployment compensation itself.

I think that you can just continue on and I believe you should be able to e-file anyway, because, after all, you did check the 1099-G and that's what it says. There's no law against withholding a majority of your compensation.

So give it a try just continuing through that, ignoring the message each time.

No, the only way we can communicate is through this forum.

Same results, Ill remove the amount, put it again and the smart check with just keep popping up after I press e-file, I’ve removed the entire 1099-g and submitted it through a photo and it still pops up

We have discussed this at length, and we believe that the purpose of this Review error message is that when a form is submitted with the withholding being more than half the wages/compensation/interest/whatever on the form, that the return is rejected by the IRS - so TurboTax prevents you from e-filing.

Normally, we would tell you to paperfile (that is, print and mail your return), but the IRS is horribly backed up this year. Paper filed returns takes months and months to process now.

There are a variety of things that you can do to try to avoid this restriction. Probably, the most straightforward one is to remove the 1099-G from your return, and e-file without it, and then at a later date, amend your return by adding the 1099-G.

Note that you should be able to e-file your amended return for 2021 this year, but I am afraid you might run into the same situation, so be prepared to paperfile the amended return. In this way, at least, you can get the rest of your refund more quickly (e-filing and direct deposit are the fastest ways to get refunds).

I uploaded 1099-INT directly from bank through your portal and it constantly says needs review.  It doesn't seem like there's anything wrong with it.
