turbotax Premier 2021 running very slow

Yes I am having the same issues.  I am so frustrated I may never buy Turbo Tax again!!  I have used it since it's inception.  Last year a little frustrating, but this year is off the charts frustrating.  So SLOW and many programming errors that they are not fixing even though they are well aware of them.

try searching for this:  TurboxTax 2021 Individual — R.24  

It was called manually updating Turbo Tax when I searched it.

Why doesn't TurboTax send this out to the probably thousands of customers who are super frustrated with them!!?  You shouldn't have to search for a solution on your own!  Horrible service if you ask me.

If you're having trouble updating your TurboTax 2021 for Windows Individual software using the "Check for Updates" method, here's instructions for how you can get the latest federal program update:

1. Close TurboTax and all other programs except this browser window.
2. Select this link to download the 189 MB update.
3. Save the update file to your Windows desktop.
4. Double-click the update file w_perrelsuperpatch... on your desktop to install the manual update.

We don't offer manual updates for TurboTax state software. If you need to update your state, here are your options.

I see - it's the manual update process.  I did that just now and it didn't change my version nor my speed when entering W2 data.

I'm on version [phone number removed] - although the manual update page says R24, that's not what I have after installing the downloaded super patch file.

I did the update as well, it did nothing.  This is taking 15 minutes per w2g.  I have about 60 left to go- so another 20 hours?  This is horrible

I cannot download 2020 .tax file, clicking the download .tax button then saw it spins and takes about one hour and still spinning. Tried 2019 .tax file, it only took 3 seconds to complete the download. 

Has TurboxTax blocked the previous year .tax file download and only allow downloading the years before previous year?

Did you prepare your 2020 return in Online TurboTax last year?  And are you now wanting to download it from your online account to use with desktop software?

No, TurboTax doesn't block anything.  It's possible they can have server problems, however, or maintenance.

If it doesn't happen in usual time of other downloads, there's no need to let it keep it spinning for minutes and an hour.  I wouldn't think it would suddenly work.

Try logging out, closing the browser, then clearing your browser cache and any TurboTax-related cookies.

Log back in and try again.  If it still happens, then log out, do the clearing again, close the browser, and reopen it, then log back in--this time using a private window (aka private browsing, or incognito mode.)

If still no luck, do you have a second browser available to try?

Or wait until during the day tomorrow to see if something corrects overnight.

I just finished inputting 38 w-2’s. At about 10 minutes per, it took quite a while. I’m running a new MacBook Air. Figured it would be fast. Not with this software. Like a lot on the thread, I’ve using TT for many years. Never seen anything like this. Tried shutting down everything but TT. No help. Still not done with this return. And there looks to be an error somewhere in the data I just finished inputting. Oh joy!

I guess I’ll muddle through.

At least you are not alone. The only workaround i found was to switch to "Forms" view (upper right) while waiting on TT to give you the cursor back. Things go normal quickness in Forms. When you are finished entering your info, click on "Close Form" and return to step-by-step mode, then choose to add (or edit) another W-2. Good luck!
