Not true, just you.
2019 Filing
Free if you qualify. I don't qualify.
I file STANDARD
It cost me $50.00 for the Deluxe CD version online.
No additional fees for E-filing Federal.
Additional fees for E-filing State $19.99
Additional fees for processing E-Filing State $39.99
Free to print and mail yourself.
These prices could change if you file with a more in depth tax status.
I spent hours filling this all in to realize at the end it was a scam. I went to taxact and it was smooth sailing and no fee
I agree first year I used it it was free but ever since then it cost me about $200. I've used for about nine years but this will be my last when irs.gov and others truly are free
i found out that when you go to irs.gov and use turbotax free file that it is free if your income is right but if you go to the TurboTax website and try the turbotax free edition it will charge you something no matter what. My son and I work at the same place and same 401k retirement. I used the TurboTax website and was charged $110 because"the free edition does not include retirement contribution credit form"and I was forced to upgrade to deluxe in order to finish and file, I looked at other reveiws and there are alot of other people that got the same message and my son used the irs.gov website and was charged nothing. Here is link that was helpful https://www.propublica.org/article/turbotax-just-tricked-you-into-paying-to-file-your-taxes?fbclid=I...

The price is based on which products you are chosen after entering your information.
If you are looking for a complete free filing, you might want to consider another option. It's called the TaxFreedom which is an IRS Free File Program delivered by TurboTax. It is exclusively available online and has its own dedicated website at taxfreedom.com. It isn't accessible from the "regular" TurboTax.com website and is not the same as the TurboTax Free Edition. For 2019, if your Adjusted Gross Income AGI is $36,000 or less, you may qualify.
I hope this helps answer your question.
Filed last year for free, federal and state. Did the same just now for 2019. But my efile was rejected for the reason of adjusted gross from previous year not matching. However, I have pulled up my 2018 number and it is exactly what Turbo Tax filed for 2018. So you now tell me I can sign up for Live Chat with a CPA and it is free but after March 28, it won't be/it will be 80.00 for that part of the deal. If I try to read the disclaimer to be absolutely sure you will not charge me now or later, it runs through at warp speed and jumps so it is unreadable. I do not feel secure I will not be charged for this after the fact. So with that insecurity , I am disgusted. Wasted my time and gave out information on line to get this done and now I have an efile fed and state return that will not go through and I can't get you to switch me to a mail in form no matter how many times I try it. And will I have a problem on the mailed form if the adjusted supposedly don't match the IRS figures from last year but THEY ARE THE CORRECT numbers that are on the 2018 filing? Disgusted disgusted disgusted. My returns are not complex. So sorry I went with you guys and will discontinue all usage of your products.
Wrong! I was doing my daughters taxes. She didn't make a lot of money, but had college expenses. Following the instructions I added the college expenses. When I did that her tax filing was no longer free, although the expenses did not change her refund. I had to go back and remove the college expenses and it was free. I paid close attention to this since somebody had alerted me how people were being misled. I'm glad I paid attention. Now I wonder about my taxes. I used the standard deduction and had no unusual inputs but I paid. I have used Turbotax for years but will not use them again. Deceptive practices turn me off.

Use the TurboTax Free File program if you are eligible - https://freefile.intuit.com/
If you are eligible you can use the TurboTax Free File Program which is free to file both a federal and state tax return. The Free File Program edition is a full featured personal tax program and on a separate website from the TurboTax online editions.
To qualify for free 2019 federal and state tax returns with the Free File Program, you'll need to meet at least one of these requirements:
See this TurboTax support FAQ on the Free File Program - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1900583-what-is-the-turbotax-free-file-program
See this TurboTax support FAQ for the difference between the Free File Progam and the Free edition - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2572617-what-s-the-difference-between-free-file-program-and-free-e...
And see this TurboTax support FAQ on how to switch to the TurboTax Free File Program - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2026912-how-do-i-switch-to-turbotax-free-file-program
I suggest you go through the Better Business Bureau and fill a complaint. I'm doing that right now and was looking for conformation that aspects of social media where aware of Turbo Tax's business practices.
If it's not criminal, it should be.
I agree its a scam
I tried to file a simple return for free. They tried to force me to upgrade because I supposedly paid excessive SS tax. Lie. I paid exactly what I owed, 6.2%. Scam. I work part time and am a student. These hucksters wanted to steal the mere pittance I was to get back. No shame. My dad had been using them and paying for years. No more. It's bad enough the govt is screwing us, you thieves had to pile on.
It is too a scam. They know darn well once you've finished your taxes there's no way you're going to want to spend 6 hours doing it all again. That last fee I didn't even agree to. They just tacked it on without my permission. They also never said they would charge for state until the end.
