You mean your 2016 return? Something must have gone wrong with your e-file.  Either you did not actually go all the way through to the orange button that said "Transmit Return Now" and complete the process, or your tax return was rejected and you did not notice or follow up.  At this point, you have to print, sign and mail it.

Online preparation and e-filing for 2016 is permanently closed.  You have to download 2016 software and then print, sign and mail your return.  If you already paid for your TurboTax software, you can contact customer support to push a download of the software to you.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS received the return.

Turbo tax did not send my efile to the IRS last year. I made all of my payments as well. Why did they not send my file?

I sent my return in March 2019 (ty 2018) and got a TT email saying it was accepted.  The IRS did not get it.  I uploaded again with TT in May and another TT email saying it was accepted.
What happened ?

Did you call the IRS?  If you are checking the IRS Where's my refund <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://www.irs.gov/refunds/">https://www.irs.gov/refunds/</a>  Make sure you are using the refund amount from your actual federal tax return and not the combined amount Turbo Tax showed you at the end.  That was for federal and state combined.

Same Issue, I have filed my tax in 2019 march and it said it was accepted but I have never received the amount. When I tried using the IRS website for checking the status it says something wrong with the tax preparer. I am not sire what is going on.

To access your current or prior year tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on 2018

If the status of the 2018 e-filed tax return indicates Accepted then you will need to contact the IRS on the status of the tax refund.

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.
Then press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
It should then transfer you to an agent.
Or you can contact your local IRS office. See this IRS website for local IRS offices - http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 or call 1-844-545-5640 to set up an appointment
Or you may want to contact a Taxpayer Advocate in your area. See this IRS website for Taxpayer Advocate in your area and a toll free number - http://www.irs.gov/Advocate/Local-Taxpayer-Advocate

Did you complete and e-file your tax return using TurboTax?  If so, was it accepted by the IRS?

You complete your tax return by finishing all 3 Steps in the File section. In Step 3, to e-file your tax return, you must click on the large Orange button labeled "Transmit my returns now".

After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.  If there are no emails from TurboTax on your account check the spam or junk mail folders on the account.

Note - Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.  Only the taxpayer listed on the tax return can obtain the status of a tax refund or a tax return.

If accepted by the IRS use the federal tax refund website to check the refund status - https://www.irs.gov/refunds

You Must enter on the IRS refund website exactly what is entered on your federal tax return Form 1040.  The Social Security number, the Filing Status and the whole dollar amount of the federal tax refund.  Look at your copy of the Form 1040 to make sure you entering the information required correctly.

If rejected by the IRS you will have to print and mail the tax return since the 2020 tax return can no longer be e-filed.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents.  Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

Print, sign, date and mail the tax return to the IRS.  Include with the mailed return any forms W-2 and 1099 which have taxes withheld.  Go to this IRS website for mailing addresses - https://www.irs.gov/filing/where-to-file-paper-tax-returns-with-or-without-a-payment

There are no penalties for filing a tax return after the due date if filing for a tax refund or there are no taxes owed.

either you never clicked on the transmit icon so your return was never sent or your e-file was rejected.  when you e-file you get two e-mails the first will say "submitted" the second will say "accepted" or "rejected" if rejected you need to fix the errors, if possible, and resubmit.  did you ever get either e-mail?  depending on your e-mail filters the e-mails sent to you might have been delivered to your trash bin and if your e-mail settings allow for immediate deletion of "trash" you'll never know whether or not there was an issue.

"and one lady said it was sent out to a outside company for review". Who told you this. the IRS does not send returns to an outside source for review and neither does Turbotax.
