... and the software does not allow me enter more than 5 digits in the textbox where I am supposed to enter my full account number (which is definitely more than 5 digits). Also, there is no way I can clear the software cache. I've been trying to quick the software and restart the computer. To no avail.
Please help...

SOLVED!!
I found the issue. There was a strange, nondisplayable character on the form which did not show up on the regular screen.
I went directly to the form by clicking on "Forms" at top left, and edited the number there. I firstly deleted everything in the account number field on the form, including the nondisplayable character. I then entered the correct number into the forms account number field. Went back to the "EasyStep" screen by clicking "EasyStep" at tp left and continued processing my Efileing.
You need to be in the Chrome browser and clear browsing data for all time before logging in. The five digit error is probably from using Firefox. If you have to, just turn off the computer. If you don't have Chrome, download it.
Thank you for suggestion. However, notice that I am using the turbotax software. There is no browser involved.
You can't see it and most people do not know this but when TurboTax desktop software performs certain functions it connects to the Internet and uses your browser information to do things like enter account numbers, collect payments, and transmit returns. Clearing your browsers for all time might still help.
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, clearing browser cache and history, plus switching browser on computer does not affect the issue in the TurboTax software itself.
Just to clarify, I'm encountering this particular "please verify your account number has been entered correctly" getting stuck issue at California state tax section. The federal tax section has the same textbox where I entered the same info (routing number, bank account), and I didn't have any problem there.
Future suggestions are welcome 🙂
Have you double-checked to make sure there weren't any extra spaces in the input area for your account number? If you have and are still not able to input your account number, please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support and request to speak to a tech support agent who can assist with this issue.
What is the TurboTax phone number?
I eventually was able to resolve the issue with the help of customer service, via screen share. We eventually went back to the original forms (not the textbox in the software UI, but the generated forms) and went back forth several times. Eventually I was able to enter the full account number and the issue was resolved.
I think this is a case by case software issue. Definitely would recommend talk to the tech support if this ever happen again.
I've got the exact same error when trying to Efile my California State return
I have the exact same problem. I successfully efiled federal, but when it comes to California State it gets stuck on the bank account details screen with the same error message.

Try this: Go to forms info worksheet, near routing and account number. Double check direct deposit and direct debit are not both checked yes. This worked for me.
I had to go to forms and delete and manually enter the account and routing number 3-4 times before the hidden character deleted. Seems like a system glitch that goes away after entering and deleting the account number a few times. Best of luck!
I had the same issue where I couldn't enter more than 3 characters for the account number. The accepted answer is correct in that there was a weird hidden character that was place when I tried to copy/paste the account number.
How I fixed it was by CTRL-A to select everything in the textbox then Backspace/Deleting everything in the field. After that I was able to manually input the Account Number as usual.
Hope this helps!
