TT 2024 is not asking for my RMD

I will turn 73 this year in December 2024. I am required to start taking my RMD this year, and I know what my RMD for this year is. I have entered all my 1099-Rs.

TT is not asking for my RMD amount or whether I have withdrawn enough to satisfy my RMD.

I have gone through the questions for each 1099-R several times. No question about RMD shows up.

Please help.

When is your birthdate?  Go back to My Info and double your birthdate.  Did you turn 73 2 months ago in December 2024 or will this year in Dec 2025?  It should ask for the RMD after each 1099R you enter.  What codes are in box 7 on them?

Thank you VolvoGirl, your response helped clarify.

I am turning 73 this December. So, I have to take my RMD this year and report it next year in 2026 when I do my taxes for this year, 2025!

I tested this out by changing my birthday from December 1952 to December 1951 and the RMD-related questions do show up in TT!

The code in box 7 is  IRA/SEP/SIMPLE.  So RMD will be taken this year and reported next year.

Thanks for your very quick help!

I just turned 72 in January so I'm 73 in  2026.  I don't need to take my first RMD until 2026 or until April 1, 2027.  You actually have until April 1, 2026 to take your first RMD.  But if you wait you would have to take 2 RMD in 2026.

But when I did my tax return it told me

A Friendly Reminder about your retirement and said to start thinking about when you'll be required to take distributions when I turn 73.
