@kbf211 @skicrib25 Thanks for fighting the good fight and letting the rest of us know when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.
I folded, and ate the $170 in fees just to push it across the finish line (which, I stand corrected, I thought payment was the last step but there's one more hidden one of navigating the onslaught of random new unsolicited service offerings like Mint and Credit Karma).
Moving on.
At this point, until Intuit fixes their buggy online site, I tried doing a relative's taxes using TaxSlayer - it's not as flashy as TurboTax but it's considerably cheaper (even if you have investments etc.), doesn't bombard you with add-on costs, and most importantly: it works! And it's not hard to use at all.
Have not received any notification that my $39 refund for being forced to pay that way was being processed. My case was closed with Intuit. I called back today, the representative did not help me. He "promised" that I would get the refund. Originally, was told I'd get at least a notification within 24 hours that it was pending, but the new representative told me "4 to 5 weeks." I was given a reference number I believe to be fake. No one can email me or send me any assurance that this refund is being processed. My request for a refund for the product was denied because TurboTax Online does not have a satisfaction guarantee.
I have to say, this situation is just going from bad to worse. Intuit is taking advantage of people, they always have, but this is a new low.
We know how important your refund is and we apologize. We’re working quickly to resolve this and make sure you receive your full refund. If you did receive a confirmation number, you will receive your refund soon. We appreciate your patience at this time.
I don't believe you and this is why.
1. No one at Intuit will give me written, electronic confirmation of my refund request.
2. The onus is now on me, the consumer, to follow up if and when I do not get a refund even though a glitch in Intuit's product forced me to pay it in the first place.
3. Intuit does not a have a good reputation, in my opinion, for doing what's in the best interest of the consumer.
It's curious that this glitch is forcing users into paying via refund so Intuit can collect what is probably close to a 100% profit $39 "convenience fee," and maybe it's just easier to try and ignore the vocal minority (me) who are willing to complain about it?
The fact that TurboTax Online does not have a satisfaction guarantee and that customer service won't help me just further solidifies my speculation.
