At this point, until Intuit fixes their buggy online site, I tried doing a relative's taxes using TaxSlayer - it's not as flashy as TurboTax but it's considerably cheaper (even if you have investments etc.), doesn't bombard you with add-on costs, and most importantly: it works! And it's not hard to use at all.
