If you have already upgraded and wish to go back to the free version, please click here to learn how to go back to the free version.

Also if you chose to pay with your refund, you will need to follow these instructions to select another payment method.

Again, the confusion comes as to which Free Version:   Free File or Free Edition?   This is a constant headache for Turbo Tax customers in this product range.   Free Edition will most likely end up charging you, at the very least, the $40 tax refund processing fee which can be activated due to a number of seemingly innocent choices.  For example if you choose to put your refund towards next year, it will trigger that fee.   And it can take a minute to figure out how to get it off.   If you go back and forth enough times AND uncheck any options which has triggered the charge, the system will automatically put you into "Free File."  And you can tell when it's done that by the graphic on the left.

Point is knowing the difference between Free File found here  https://freefile.intuit.com/   and Free Edition which is on the regular website.   Free File is truly free and is the program that the IRS makes Turbo Tax offer. Turbo Tax however, does not make it easy to find and people will not find it if they are simply going to the turbo tax homepage and beginning their taxes.
