The representative I talked to didn't even want my license code. She said because I had used the CD to load TurboTax and entered the license code there, I could not use it on a computer without a CD drive because it was no longer downloadable.

I entered the license code carefully several times, double-checking the code.  It did not work as it was already “associated with another account”.  It did work when I initially entered the code when loading turbo tax from the CD.  The representative I spoke with said it was now only usable for loading to other computers via the CD.  Believe me when I tried everything, coming to the conclusion if I wanted to use it for another computer without a cd drive that I would have to purchase a cd or dvd external drive and hook it up.

I bought a Turbo tax CD from Costco. I have used the license code and downloaded the software on a really old laptop and the laptop died. I am switching to a new computer and enter the same license code. I received the message: "this license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in downloads."

How can I install the software again to my new computer using the same sign in account?

Sounds like you may have multiple TurboTax accounts. You can check to see if you do by following the steps in the below help article.

@sudyhary   There is a problem if you first installed the CD. It doesn't connect you to an account you can find. You have to call in and ask for the download and a new License Code. Hopefully you get a customer service person who knows about it.

What is the big deal about accessing software if you paid for the license code already. Called Turbo Tax and was on the phone for 40 minutes with no solution. Will not be using Turbo Tax next year which is a shame because I've been using TurboTax for years.

I do actually have two accounts but neither one is associated with the license code for the TurboTax that I purchased and installed on my laptop.  I even checked which account my laptop was connected to, found it but still was not successful in downloading it.  I have basically given up and next year will know better.

The customer service person I found acknowledged the problem but told me the only way to solve it was to buy an external hard drive for any computer without a CD or DVD drive.

It happened to me last year when I installed from the CD then couldn't use the CD on another computer.  I had to ask for the download.  This year even though I bought the CD at Costco I used the download method to install.  Then I could download to my laptop too.  Was very easy.

@jean5608  Just saw your last post.  That won't work.  Unless it's to install the CD the first time.  And if you don't have a CD drive you can just install it from the download in the first place.

I hope it will work, because that is exactly what the TurboTax representative told me to do.  If I cannot install it via the CD on another laptop and the download option doesn't work, I will be very upset!  But I know TurboTax doesn't care or they would have put a warning on the package since it seems it has happened to many others.

@VolvoGirl  I installed TurboTax from CD purchased from Costco on my old computer.  Because the computer is old, I'd like to install on a new computer which has no CD.  But I can't download TurboTax online because it was installed on my old computer, having error message "This license code has already been associated with an account. Please check that account and look for it in Downloads." What's is my solution? How do I get a copy of online?  Will uninstalling TurboTax from my old computer work?
