Question for the experts: Can my son designate me as a third party designee on his tax return since I assisted him with the completion of it? Other than completing the section on the 1040 are there any other forms necessary? Where in turbo tax do you make the change as it automatically flags the box "No". Thanks

Yes, you can. You can do that only in the Desktop installed program using Forms Mode.

I AM THERE AND IT WON'T ALLOW ME TO CHECK THE YES BOX. STAYS ON NO. MAC VERSION. FORM 1040. ALSO EVENTHOUGH IT SHOWS BLACK ON YES WON'T SHOW X, NEITHER WITH IT ALLOW ME TO ENTER A DESIGNEE'S NAME
Please try updating the software.

sorry you didn't read the question? it was about a mac version not windows. no kulus given.
You have to change it on the form titled - Info Wks. You can't change it directly on Form 1040. See the image below. @NBRENERGY
I had same issue that TT would not let me change it, even in the Forms mode, and even in the worksheet. I saved and closed out the return, then went back in and it allowed me to make the designation.
Should the PIN entered be that of the tax payer or the 3rd party designee? Or, as the form says, "any number", implying it does not matter what the number is?
It would be self-selected pin as the preparer/designee. If you make an entry in this field, you must also assign a 5-digit, self-selected PIN to the preparer/designee in the Preparer's section of Options. If you leave this field blank, but instruct the "yes" box to be checked, the word "Preparer" prints as the third-party designee, per IRS instructions in Publication 17.
