There is an avalanche of reports about Software glitches and malfunctions for the current 2024 Download. Customers have profound software quality, functionality probs

TurboTax support would be the first avenue to use for assistance.  Yes, I know it is a pain to get to support, but once you do you should be able to request Technical support for your installation.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for contacting support - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/account-management/turbotax-phone-number...

Support can also be reached by messaging them on these pages https://www.facebook.com/turbotax/ and https://twitter.com/TeamTurboTax

Another option is to do a manual update for your install.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to manually update - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/update-products/manually-update-turbotax...

There some very good volunteers on this forum who are quite knowledge using the software, so I will page one of them to see if he has any ideas - @SteamTrain

@VolvoGirl Thanks, just recalled the same.  I owe you one😊

I believe I saw that screen once, a long time ago.  I've deleted the data file and started over since then.  After modifying the list of accounts, I am taken directly to a screen that starts with "Let's finish pulling in your investment income".  Below that there is a long series of boxes, one for each investment account.

Ah. This time, clicking there brought up your screen.  The process from there permitted entry of my data.

Is it going to now force me to go through all 1099-INTs before it lets me go?  That would be inconsistent with the way my data arrives.

This is beyoun horrible.

@Bikeflyer My Bad and I apologize.  What I posted was from my test return using the TurboTax online editions, not the desktop editions.

The post and screenshot from @VolvoGirl is correct for the desktop editions.

Enter a different way doesn't show up on the software. Go back and check before you try to tell us how it is SUPPOSED to work.

I agree it doesn't show up. I just tried it and I did look for something like that and it works exactly as you describe. JUNK!

I don't like how to enter Interest, Dividends, Sales etc. Too many clicks and screens to click on and go through. There is no table on the screen (except in Forms) and you have to click though several screens to add more. And after I manually entered 3 interest it didn't ask if I wanted it to stop asking to import. Oh and Interest, Dividends and Sales are listed in the same list on the screen alphabetically. If I go to Interest I only want to see Interest!

Oh, and you can't enter any bank info like EIN. The payer TIN and address isn't a required field for filing, so you don't need to enter that information. There is nowhere to enter that information in the Step-By-Step section of TurboTax. However, if you do prefer to include it you can do so by going to Forms and navigating to the 1099-INT.

You can enter them 1 at a time when you get them.  If you get the list of them on your screen at the bottom is an Add Investment button at the bottom which takes you back to the beginning to add new ones.

I am using Deluxe not Premiere maybe thats the difference.

It seems that Premiere works differently than Deluxe. According to Bikeflyer it lets you choose a manual option but that doesn't appear on Deluxe.

Yes and then if you skip import it takes you back to the selct screen once again which lets you put in the name and your Box 1 info. It should default to all the boxes of a 1099-INT and then let you continue to add investments without having to go back through the entire process again. I have many INT's so this is a pain.

Maybe this extra note will help.

If you transferred from last year you get to a list of all your 1099s. To enter the amount click on Review which takes you to the beginning screen to import your tax info or go to the bottom and Skip Import. Then you get the screen with 5 boxes. Pick the kind of 1099 and Continue. Then that 1099 will show up.

Just chiming in that the 1099 redesign is a huge mess and unnecessary.  One option that may be viable is to do all the entry in Forms mode rather than clicking and scrolling around EasyStep which is longer Easy.  Double clicking in the Schedule B spins up a new 1099 entry form very quickly.  Suspect I will be in Forms mode a lot more this year.

yes the online version is a real pain if you have multiple 1099-INTs or Divs possibly other tax documents as well. It's like the programmers didn't think things through. there was no reason after adding the first not to have a direct link to add another. To have to go back to the start is like flying from Miami to NYC via London.

The desktop version does offer forms mode where it is easy to add another 1099 of the same type. Sadly in strep mode it's just like the online version.

Well, it looks like there may be a path that permits direct, manual entry of data.  What shows up on a screen may be dependent upon the path taken to get to it.  At least, as I try to understand how to enter data, it seems that way.

But I should not have to get down into a pig wallow and slop around in the mud to be able to enter data into my tax return.  I'm very upset with TT.

Thanks to all Community responders.  Hopefully my path forward will actually work.
