There is an avalanche of reports about Software glitches and malfunctions for the current 2024 Download. Customers have profound software quality, functionality probs

Recently installed TurboTax Home and Business 2024 on my iMac which runs Os 15.2.

Having problem entering my property tax for my own home.  Contacted customer support and they connect to my computer remotely and they couldn't find out why.

Is anyone else encounter the same problem?  I have uninstalled and re-installed the software, but the problem persist.  Thanks.

"customer support .. connect to my computer remotely and they couldn't find out why."

This should be sufficient. You shouldn't have to ask others for support.

Your issue should be on a trouble tickent and your email on a list to be notified when the bug is fixed.

Just a heads up.

I realized why all my boxes were blank.

Dont forget that Intuit owns Quickooks and Turbotax

I was attempting to do my TAXES and logged in with my side business email (the one I use Quickbooks with).

This obviously did not show any prior taxes, info or anything.

When I logged out and relogged in under my TAXES account everything was fine.

If you have a side business, LLC/partnership/Corp, and use desktop or online Quickbooks, make sure you log into Turbotax under the account you file taxes with every year 😁

I have used the download version of Turbotax to file my taxes all the way back to when the programmer actually answered help calls.  (He said it helped him to identify improvements.)

But this year is a total disaster.  More programming than software.  TT near-demands that I allow it to pull in data from my financial accounts.  I totally hate that.  I want to track exactly what goes into my return, not poke a key, let TT do whatever, and hope it all works out.  TT has narrowed its potential customer base by their arrogance.  I'm disgusted.

@Bikeflyer I have been a TurboTax user for at least 30 years, from diskette to CD to Download.  As the tax code becomes more onerous the tax preparation software becomes more complex, regardless of who provides the service.

As far as intrusions, in no way have I ever used the features available to import from brokerages, payroll processors or other financial institutions.  It is easier and usually more accurate to key in the data from the tax forms.  So all of my tax data is local on my HD or USB drive, nothing online.

Needless to say there are other tax preparation software vendors available, but TurboTax has not failed me in all the years of usage.

The 2024 software is horrible! I am trying to enter investment info from my 1099-INT forms manually and it forces me to try and download. When I connect to an institution it shows a couple of INT forms but not all of them from the same institution. After every entry it forces me to go back to the investment type selection screen. Trying to add new INT forms is a nightmare. I will be moving to another software next year. If I had known these types of changes were made I would have migrated this year. Great way to screw up a very good software!

DonninGA:

Thanks for your response.  I too have been satisfied with TT for many years.  This year it has changed.  I can not find a way to type in information from forms 1099.  TT attempts to bully me into allowing it to "pull in" that information directly from my financial instutions.  That puts too much of my personal information into TT's hands and complicates my control over the entered data.

I've tried the TT help.  It is a very tightly controlled process.  They seem to take control of my computer, which from a security perspective terrifies me.

I'll probably fill out government forms manually this year.  Ugh!

I wonder at what level of management the decision to block personal entry of data was made.

I think the software was released without aqequate testing. I tried clicking on help and got an error. The forms use drop down boxes that don't work correctly. I think as more people start to use it there will be more reports of issues. The management that approved these design changes should be questioned as to their qualifications. How can you have any confidence in the software when it is so buggy? If I need to do the calculations manually I don't need TT.

@Bikeflyer When using the desktop editions you are not required to use import.

This is an example of entering interest income manually from a Form 1099-INT -

Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home & Business)
Click on Wages and Income (Personal Income using Home & Business)
Click on I'll choose what I work on
Under Interest and Dividends
On Interest on 1099-INT, click on the start or update button

On the screen Did you have investment income in 2024? Click on Yes

On the screen Let's import your tax info, click on Enter a different way

On the screen OK, let's start with one investment type, click on Interest and Continue

On the screen How would you like to upload your 1099-INT? Click on Type it in myself

In all the income sections which require a Form 1099 and there is an import option, you can get past importing by using the Enter a different way

DoninGA:

Are you actually doing as described?  Or are you providing information on how TT is susposed to work?

I tried your process.  It took me to the list of types of income to enter; however, when I clicked on 1099 INT it took me to a pull-it-in page.  That page did NOT offer me the option of manual entry.  Basically, just like before.  The "Type it in myself" button is not there.

So, I started all over.  I deleted the 2024 TT files, opened TT, and started through its processes.  Initially, all went well, including updating the list of income sources.

But it then offered to pull-in my W2 data.  It did not offer me any options - just pull-in.

If mandating pull-in of data and eliminating direct customer entry is not management's intent, there is a major programming muddle here.

TT has an amazing process for customer requests for their money back.  I've started it.  For me the program is total junk.  If it is just a bug, then let me know when it will be corrected.  Otherwise, I need to leave.

@Bikeflyer What I entered is exactly as it is presented on my 2024 TurboTax Premier desktop edition for Windows.

If your install does not have these screens and options then there is something wrong with your particular install.

Moving on to some other program is always an option if you do not want to see if your install can be corrected.

So, how do I exercise the option to have my install corrected?  I find TT help complex to access.

Or is it possible that there is a gap between the process guidance and the actual programming?

The process changed this year.  I don't like it.  It takes you back to the beginning screen each time you add a new interest, dividend or investment.

To manually enter, don't enter the bank name and click Skip Import at the bottom

THEN....should be a screen with 5 boxes, Interest, Dividends, Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds, Cryptocurrency and Other.

Do you get this screen?
