When I try to submit my return, I receive this message ""the submission was a duplicate of one that was received. Please contact customer support."
I have spent over 10 hours on the phone with four different representatives. no one has any idea why this technical error is happening.

have you tried checking the status on the iRS website? if you're due a refund use this site.
https://www.irs.gov/wheres-my-refund
if you owe you'll have to register to review your account
https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals
the only purpose is tos ee what the iRS says.
could you have previously selected to transmit your return, or do you have family members who could have gained access to the return.
IRS hasn't received it. It's a turbotax software issue, but none of their reps are able to solve it.
Was your return rejected by the IRS? You may have to paper file.
The return wasn't rejected by the IRS. It simply won't go through on Turbotax, because Turbotax thinks there is a duplicate for some reason.
Can you give us a screen shot of the error message you are getting?
here is the screenshot. I have tried diagnostic support with multiple reps. have tried updating turbotax, updating chrome, updating my computer, redownloading turbotax, re-entering my info. nothing has fixed it.
From what I am able to find out, it seems like you may have had identity theft. If a return was already filed using your ssn, you will have to file by mail and Complete IRS Form 14039, Identity Theft Affidavit. Follow the instructions outlined in the first FAQ below.
Here are a couple FAQs:
What to do if you suspect tax-related identity theft
Identity Theft: What to Do if Someone Has Already Filed Taxes Using Your Social Security Number
haha, yeah, thought of that too but that's not what happened. As I said before, there was no return filed with the IRS. so it's definitely not identity theft! it is a turbotax issue.
Have you called the IRS and expressed concern about the possibility of a fraudulent return being filed under you SSN?
well, spoke to 4 different turbotax reps who all said the return should have been able to go through via turbotax (even if the IRS later rejected it), which makes sense to me. seems like it's a turbotax issue, not identity theft.
Unless TurboTax has already filed a return with your ssn. Have you verified your ssn entered in TurboTax? I would verify that and then call the IRS and see if a return has been filed with your ssn. 800-829-1040.
@zzzz4 Don't know who you spoke with, but they are incorrect. Once the IRS has received a tax return with the same Social Security number and name as you are e-filing from your tax return, the IRS will reject your tax return.
Do you have the exact rejection code that was used by the IRS to reject your tax return? The message is kind of generic so having the actual rejection code would help to better identify the problem.
After completing the File section and e-filing your tax return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first email when your tax return was transmitted and the second email when the tax return has either been accepted or rejected.
the IRS did not reject my return! Turbotax is **unable to transmit it**. my return was not submitted to the IRS at all. I just checked the IRS website. *they do not have a return on file for my SS number!* 4 different people from turbotax confirmed this is a Turbotax issue.
I understand you are checking where's my refund. It will show as not received if you don't enter the correct filing status and refund amount. If someone used your ssn fraudulently, you would not know the filing status or refund amount they had. Can you call the IRS and ask if they have received a return with your ssn?
