Tax Year Prior to 2020: Made a mistake on taxes

i Submitted my relaxed and then I realized I skipped box 14 how can I fix that

What was box 14?  It may not change your return so you won't have to amend.  Box 14 are usually Itemized Deductions  and it takes a lot to Itemize now.

If you have not filed your return it is easy to add. If you have filed your tax return with the IRS, you will need to file an amended return.

If you have not filed your return and you are signed in and working in TurboTax:

  • In the main left-hand menu click on Federal
  • Then click on Income and Expenses
  • At the top of the page, you should see Jobs (W2). Click on Edit/Add.
  • On the page that says Here's your W-2 info, click the button that says Add a W2 for XXXXX

If you have filed your tax return, you will need to amend your return.

You will need to wait until the IRS has accepted your original return before filing the amendment. If you are to receive a refund, wait until you receive it before filing the amended return. If you owed the IRS money, then wait for your payment to clear.

For TurboTax Online, simply login to your account and select “Amend a return that was filed and accepted.” If you used our CD/download product, sign back into your return and select “Amend a filed return.

You can find out more about amending a return here

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Made a mistake on taxes

No matter how you filed you're going to have to file an amended tax form/ If you need a 1099 R for your annuity payments, call your financial institution for online printing of your 1099 R/ You will have to file your amended taxes by mail. In Turbo Tax entrance pace there is a place to file an amended return.

Did my spouses retirement plan get entered correctly? Our refund is so much less then last year. Will TurboTax catch any mistakes? I took a picture of our W2 s shouldn’t it show up?

No one on this forum can see your tax return. If you would like to have someone review it, you can add Live to your package.

It’s easy to get help with TurboTax Live

As you prepare your taxes, you can quickly connect to a tax expert using one-way video or phone. Here’s how:

  1. Select the Live Tax Advice icon in the top right.
  2. Enter your question or topic area.
  3. Select Set up a call.
  4. For a callback, enter your info and select Confirm my call. To schedule a call for a specific day and time, select Book a call and follow the prompts.

How do I stop doin them because I have more w-2s comin in

Tax Year Prior to 2020: Made a mistake on taxes

Stop what?  If you haven't filed yet you can sign out then log in and continue when you get the rest of them.

if you have filed you can't stop it unless it rejects for something.

You cannot change or add anything on the return that you e-filed.  It is too late, just like when you put an envelope in a US mailbox

Now you have to wait until the IRS either rejects or accepts your return. If your return is rejected, you will be able to go into your account and add or change it and resend it.

If the IRS accepts your return, then you have to wait until it has been fully processed and you have received your refund or paid the tax due. THEN you can prepare an amended tax return 1040X and mail it in. You cannot e-file an amended return.  Meanwhile, DO NOT change anything on your return until you start the amended return. If you did change or add the missing info then take it out and put your return back to the way it was when you first filed it.

If you didn't file your return you can easily edit Form 8889  HSA contribution :

  1. Log in to you account.
  2. Go to Federal Taxes.
  3. Go to Deductions and Credits.
  4. Scroll down to Medical and click show more.
  5. Scroll down to HSA, MSA Contributions.

If you already filed your return, you need to amend it to make any changes.

Wait until your return has been accepted and you received your refund ( if you are expecting a refund) then amend your return.

To amend:

  1. Log in to your return.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents, select 2019 and then Amend (change) return.
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Carefully follow the instructions. Don't worry if your refund changes to $0. This is normal on amended returns.
