Tax refunds only take into account your income earned in the fiscal year ie. January 1st to December 31st, correct?

Waiting to do my 2017 taxes so I can receive a bigger refund by incorporating my income in January and February of 2018 isn't how any of this works correct?

Your 2017 tax return is for income from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017.  No income after the end of 2017 goes on your 2017 return.  (No income from before 2017, either.)
