Spouse prior year AGI

I need help entering my spouse’s prior year AGI.

We got married December 2025. I filed my taxes erroneously as single which I am now working on amending and filing as married jointly. The problem I’ve encountered is that when I get to information verification where it asks for prior year AGI, it’s only showing my name and don’t see an option to add my spouse’s.

We’ve tried filing it with just my prior year AGI, as well as both of our AGI combined. Both got rejected with an error saying Spouse’s prior year AGI must have a value.

We’ve called Turbo tax and talked to 3 people now but no luck so far.

Would anybody else be able to help?
we’re really trying not to file via mail so our next option would be to just file our amendment on a different software/company.

In your case you will have to mail your return since you have not been able to verify your identity to be able to electronically file your return.

How do I solve my e-filing issue?

How do I file my return by mail?

Spouse prior year AGI

This exact thing is happening to me right now, I paid 188$ and operated 100% within Turbotax's terms but am still being told to file by mail??? I don't believe it.

The IRS uses your prior year AGI to combat fraud. Make sure you take into account the information below.

You can find your 2024 Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) by:

  • Looking at line 11 on page 1 of your 2024 Form 1040
  • Requesting a transcript of your 2024 tax return from the IRS. You can request your transcript online at the following link: Get Transcript

Please click on this TurboTax article for more information.

Check these items as well to ensure you have the correct number.  If you:

  • Filed late last year after mid-November or your return was processed after that time—try entering 0.
  • Amended your return last year—make sure you’re using the AGI from your original return, not the amended one. (If you only have a 1040X form, it’s on line 1, column A).
  • Rounded your AGI to the nearest dollar—be sure to round up when it’s 50 cents or more and down when it’s 49 cents or less.
  • Filed with your spouse last year—you and your spouse have the same 2024 AGI. (Don’t split the AGI amount or enter  0  for one of you).

Time-saving Tip: If what you entered is correct and you continue to get a reject, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return.

This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

If you are amending a return and getting this reject:

Open your tax file and go to File. Proceed to the screen, "Review Your Federal Filing Choices". Review your Identifying Information (AGI). If you filed a prior year return, you must enter the Prior Year AGI for the Taxpayer (and Spouse if applicable). Do not use the tabs at the top of the screen to exit this interview. Once you have made the necessary corrections, you may resubmit this return for electronic filing. If the reject continues, you may need to print and file this return by mail.

If you are using the online version, you would need to file a joint return in order to file using your spouses account.  You can only file one return per account online.  If you want to file more than one return per account, you will need to use the download version.
