Hi
I was wondering about social security income and unemployment. I'm working on my mothers taxes she is 92 and last year was working until covid-19 hit. She had income from her job, then collected unemployment benefits plus collects social security. She was getting a return until I entered in her 1099 for social security then it said she owed. Is this sound correct she has paid taxes on her income plus her unemployment but does not have taxes withheld from SS
thanks Ken
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You are among millions who have now been affected by a mid-tax season change in the tax law. Patience will be necessary.
TurboTax will update the software for the unemployment but there is no timeline yet.
If you have not e-filed yet—-wait. And if you already e-filed and want to amend for this—WAIT.
Please read this very recent news from the IRS:

thank you so much
Hi
I was wondering about filing a amended return!
Do I have to mail in my amended return? or can I efile?
I just finished amending my 2020 return due to new tax law on unemployment but turbo tax will not let me efile.
Or will the IRS just fix things on there end?
Thanks Ken
PS thank you for you advice on my Mom return it paid to wait like you said. Wish I knew that before I filed mine lol
