I've used your product for years but I am about to never ever use it again. How do I get rid of LIVE and change to do it yourself WITHOUT erasing all of the work I've done? I've tried all of the suggestions I found in your "help" but Do it yourself is grayed out and not selectable. It seems this is a very common question and your business model has now become tricking people into using products they don't need. It might restore my faith in your company if you can actually tell me how to switch my product without having to do 5 hours worth of work over. Oh, and I haven't used the LIVE feature but it still isn't letting me change.

HOW CAN I DOWNGRADE TO A LOWER VERSION
Yeah, the information on that article doesn't work.
Please call TurboTax Customer service. Here is a link: Turbo Tax Customer Service
FWIW, I just gave up, cleared and started over. I took lots of screenshots to expedite re-entering everything. Such a terrible business practice to deceive and trick your customers like this. Definitely switching to another company/product next year.
You keep posting the number for customer service. I called it three times and each time it just sent me the community links listed here on removing the premium live. You don't speak to a human being. This is horsecrap. I don't need the premium. I have a simple straight forward return and don't need to have a live rep look at the return. Seems like a scam to make you start over from scratch after already spending 3 hours inputting info.
Yep. Sorry to say it, but you'll probably need to do what I did and just clear and start over. Take screenshots with all of your income and deductions, schedules, etc. to make entering all of it easier the second time. It took me about 5 hours the first time, but only 1.5 hours the second time. I'm sorry for everyone having to go through this and I agree -- it's a scam.
Why keep pointing people to this "Switch Products/Downgrade" page?? Those options DO NOT EXIST!
I ran into this as well. I've been with Turbotax for over a decade, but this is despicable business practice that even tricked me as a long time user. I noticed they kept pushing the live options last year as well, but somehow they got me to click it this time, because I KNOW I started with the Do it yourself option but at some point must have clicked something that caused it to go to live.
I have used TurboTax for almost twenty years, but will not use it again. I downloaded the update today to print out tax documents after calculating my taxes on TurboTax Desktop a month ago. The update replaced my Desktop version to the Online version with no advance notice. There is no way to get help on the phone and every question submitted via the internet comes back to screens asking how TurboTax can help me with my taxes. I didn't pay for the online version because I didn't want it, but TurboTax is forcing me to use it.
The update to your TurboTax Desktop software couldn't have replaced your program with TurboTax Online. Why do think that happened? Some of the screens in the desktop software this year look like the online version.
To use TurboTax Online, you have to Sign In each time you use it, rather than clicking the icon on your desktop, as you do for desktop programs.
If you can share more details, we'll try to help.
I logged into my TurboTax desktop version using my desktop icon as I usually do, and have done for the past 12 years. The first thing that came up was the update feature, which I downloaded those changes, and when TurboTax restarted it gave me the online version, not the desktop version for which I had paid. I had filed my taxes via the Desktop version several weeks ago and was going back in to print out a second set of returns for my partner. So, the switch to the online version came immediately after the updates. And now, when I use the desktop icons for my previous year's TurboTax returns, each one goes into the online version. So yes, it was the update that made the change. If I wanted the online version, I would have purchased it.
When you log in to the desktop version the log in screen requires a connection to the internet and verifies your account using TurboTax online. But you should be doing tax prep on your desktop and saving the file to your computer as you progress. Do you still have FORMS view available?
Yes, I understand all of that. The issue is that I logged into the Desktop version as I have done for the past 12+ years, clicking on my desktop icon. I submitted one set of returns several weeks ago with no problem. Yesterday I clicked on the desktop icon to print out another return for mailing and the Turbotax Update message appeared on the Desktop Version screen as it has done for the past 12+ years. The updates processed, Turbotax restarted, and rather than the Desktop version, a new On-line version appeared, instructing me to login to the on-line version to print my forms. Because my forms files were on my computer, as usually retrieved from the Desktop Version that Turbotax replaced without my doing, the Turbotax on-line version messaged back that my forms were not available for import. In addition, my desktop icons for 2024 and previous years, now all result in the on-line version, which before the updates were not there.
Intuit is simply engaging in fraud, trying to get customers to capitulate and accept the forced, unwanted, and unnecessary upgrades.
Intuit's business practices have become truly despicable. I regret having used TurboTax for the last 20 years. I wish I had given up on them sooner.
Intuit's only desire is to scam people. Everyone needs to file a complaint with the FTC. https://www.ftc.gov/media/71268
