Your IP Pin will change every year and is issued by the IRS.
The IP Pin is different than the 5-digit signature Pin. Additionally, the IP Pin will change each and every year. This is an Identity Protection Pin.
You can get an Identity Protection pin here, or if you lost your IP PIN, you can go here to Retrieve IP PIN.
Thank you @PattiF
These simple instructions were not included in the software, and the "fix error" function does not go to the correct location to enter this information.
I'm new to this Support chain and I'm replying to this issue because it's been such a pain to get in touch with someone from Intuit. The issue involves the IRS IP PIN entry. In both the 2022 and 2023 versions of the desktop Tubro Tax software, the STEP-by-STEP process takes you to a screen that allows you to enter your IRS PIN number/s. The problem is the field size. On that screen, Turbo Tax only allows 5 of the 6 digits provided by the IRS PIN number. If you submit this to the IRS, they will reject it. Had this happen both years. I correction involves going back into the Federal Information Worksheet and entering the correct 6 IP PIN number into that form. Once you do this and resubmit, the IRS is happy. I'm trying to get Intuit to investigate this and determine if this is a real issue with the metadata of the Step-by-Step form, or if I'm just doing something wrong. I've managed to correct it both years, but I"m grateful I kept notes. Thanks.
To enter, edit or delete a 6 digit IP PIN
Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
Click on Other Tax Situations
Scroll down to Other Return Info
On Identity Protection PIN, click the start button
Here are two ways to navigate to the section to enter the 6 digit IP PIN:
Or another way:
I am using the Turbo Tax (Mac) Home and Business this year and things are arranged differently from the navigation indicated, the Other Tax Situations is under the Personal Tab -- Other Return Info.
I had solved this directly on the forms before reading this solution because I was unable to find the place in the "Easy Step" to enter the 6 digit IP Pin. So, I went to Forms mode, then the "Info Wks" after Part VII is the section on the forms for Identity Pin Protection.
Yeah, I got a new 6-digit IP PIN, in 2025 for 2024, but TT only allows me to type in 5 of the numbers. What's with that? I've been rejected 5 times now with no clue on how to get past this issue. aslann

The 5 digit e-file PIN is any 5 digits you select.

I'm trying yet again. The IPPIN info location is BURIED and needs to be made more obvious as others have noted. I have entered it in the right place and we'll see what happens. Thank you for your help...
this still works in 2025 as I'm filing my 2024 return. Thank you!
Your instructions are "spot on". Thanks so much!
I'm using TT Deluxe and these instructions are correct. Thank you!
