Good---do not file that.   Print it out and look it over very very carefully.    You have a big mistake someplace.   You need to find the mistake and fix it before you file.

Have you checked for the obvious possibilities like extra zeros in your amounts entered or misplaced decimal points?   Those are the usual suspects for a result like the one you have.   Check all of the amounts you entered especially from boxes 2 and 17 of your W-2's.

Yes, I copied and pasted everything, that way I knew it wouldn't be incorrect. I will check again

Clearly you have a user error somewhere.    Did you check your entries for box 2?

Lets just say I put it thru and the irs confirms everything, it should be ok right?

refund too high

Okay---no kids----so no child-related credits.   Single----so possibly only $1400 for recovery rebate credit.   Less than $10K withheld for federal tax between your two W-2's, and about $1200 withheld from your state.  No chance you are getting a $25,000 income tax refund.    And you filed it without asking questions first?

Expect your return to go under review and take longer to be processed.

refund too high

I'm only partway through the process, but I've got concerns, as well. Right now I've entered self-employed income of 125,000 and a few thousand in deductions. I haven't entered my wife's income yet (a simple W-2), nor have I entered most of my deductions or any of my estimated tax payments. Right now, with 125k income and about 5k in deductions, TurboTax is predicting a $30,000 tax return.

$30,000 even though, as far as TT knows, not a single cent of tax has been paid! How is this possible?

Are you sure that's not the tax due?  Are you using the Online version or the Desktop program?  Look at the tax return.  Check each line.

For Online....Before filing,  You can preview the 1040 or print the whole return

For Desktop switch to Forms mode and open the 1040.

Reply to myself (and OP) -

Since I was only partway through the process, I stopped, deleted my return, uninstalled Turbo Tax, restarted the computer and reinstalled. Starting a brand-new return and it's working properly now. Instead of a $30k refund it's now showing a $26k tax due (I haven't entered deductions or estimated taxes yet).

Before doing all that, I had double-checked every 1099 and everything looked correct. There is definitely a bug in Turbo Tax this year!
