I did no t get my 1st or 2nd stimulus and i am qualified. How do a file a 2020 recovery rebate 1040 form on line?
As you transition from the Other Tax Situations to the Federal Review tab the stimulus question is asked ... the program is not yet updated to include the second stimulus yet and no one can file until this has been updated.
I do not see that screen in the Federal Review Tab - so I have no way to enter the data for the Recovery Rebate Credit. Please advise..... I've searched everywhere. I had higher income in 2019, so received nothing since that was the basis for the initial distribution. I also do NOT get a query about it in the Turbo Tax online interview. I'm stuck.
After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, stimulus will be the first question.
I want to know where to enter the information for the Recovery rebate credit on line 30 of Form 1040-SR.
You didn't read the prior posts?
When you go through the federal review tab it will ask how much you got if any. Or to enter your stimulus payment in TurboTax, type "stimulus" (without the quotes) in the Search box, then click the link that says "Jump to stimulus."
After you have entered your tax information and are ready for the Federal Review, it will be the first question.
If you are trying to trigger it, you can go to Other Situations, answer any questions and click Done. The next automatic selection is Federal Review and it will ask about payments received.
The Recovery rebate credit is on 1040 line 30. It either adds to your refund or reduced a tax due.
The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return. If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021
The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the Federal Review section, If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.
I filed today on line and had no info for recovery credit
Please advise on recovery credit that was not done on my file today
I had a qualified child on my 2019 return. we did not get the extra $600 that was due. i think we qualified this am i right? if i am right how do i claim it.
@chasglo2yahoocom This thread already tells you what to do---if you would just read it.
But here it is again.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.
I am using the TurboTax FreeFile program online, and it doesn't seem to have the question appear yet. I followed the instructions in this post. I filled out all my details, went into Federal, into "Other Situations", and then clicked done. It moved into Federal review. I did not get a question about payments received, though, and just got an SSN confirmation screen. And then I saw "Nice! Your federal return is in great shape". Hitting "continue" a few more times just shows me my current refund amount (which does not include the missing $$ from the stimulus checks), and then it takes me into the state returns.
I made it all the way to the "It's time to sign and transmit your 2020 returns" page, but still didn't get a question along the way.
Has the stimulus question been added to TurboTax FreeFile? Thanks.
It depends. Have you indicated you are a dependent of someone else in your personal info section? If so, that question will not appear when you select the Federal Review section.
I figured it out just as your response was coming in! And yes, it is about some strange details with how TT handles dependent status, which seem incorrect – but anyway.
TT asks 2 questions about dependent status. First: "Someone else can claim me as a dependent on their tax return."
Second: "And this person will claim me on their 2020 tax return."
If you answer Yes to the first and No to the second, TT does not show you the stimulus question. I think that it should, since the official eligibility criteria is just about whether or not you will be claimed as a dependent, not whether or not you can be.
When I switch my answers to No for the first, the second question disappears. And the stimulus question shows up! This was the problem.
How do I fix this problem already submitted my returns
