Windows Version Requirements Going Forward

I had a problem running TT2024 on Windows 11 last year, so had to run it on my W10 laptop.  Every time that W11 updated the authentication key for my TurboTax was no longer functional.  I went through all 5 uses of the key and had to buy a new license to finish my return.  Do you know it this issue has been fixed now for Windows 11 TT 2025?  Thanks Kurt

2024 & 2025 Turbo Tax Desktop Download System Requirements. For 2025 you will need Windows 11 or later or Mac OS Sonoma 14 or later (newer). Click on the 2025 tab at the top.

Nope! There is nothing of significance in Windows 11 that couldn't have been updated into Windows 10. The changes are superficial, and a lot if changing 'happy' to 'glad' so MS and their PC Hardware buddies can realize a bump in revenue and profit. I have also found alternatives to Turbo Tax who are not as tone deaf to their customers finances and whose products are rated similar to Turbo Tax. I am not looking forward to  manually entering my data in February, but I refuse to condone and support corporate greed and backdealing that Intuit appears to have adopted as their business model.

Another question regarding licenses:  If I'm required to use WIN11, and my computer Hardware is a little too old then i have to get a new one.     But if I used up my 5 installs on my previous years TT , will intuit do the right thing and allow me to migrate the old TT's  to the new PC?   can i unregister an obsolete computer?

Each tax year is separate.  You can install the 2025 TurboTax software on up to 5 computers that you own, per the TurboTax license agreement.

Good question, but don’t expect Intuit to do the right thing. They’ve had their eyes closed on the whole Windows 10 thing.  Microsoft is not shutting down Security Updates until October of 2026 but Intuit continues to disregard this and has stuck with its decision to no longer support Windows 10 Desktop.

I do IT consulting and I have a CPA client that uses the Tax Preparation software Lacerte (owned by Intuit).  My client got an email from them around April stating their software for the tax year 2025 could not be installed on Windows 10, only Windows 11.  This set us scrambling to either replace their computers (and the subsequent and expensive migration nightmare) or figure out another way before the time came to install the new software.  A month or so later they get another email walking back their position, only warning you that Windows 10 is not RECOMMENDED for their software UNLESS you get EXTENDED SECURITY UPDATES, which is a reasonable position to take.  Don't see why this position can't include Turbotax Desktop.  See https://accountants.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/product-system-requirements/lacerte-syste...

@Toby821   They have now allowed the non-professional Turbo Tax Business Desktop DIY program to run on Windows 10 but not the personal Desktop versions Deluxe, Premier, & Home & Business.

So, Intuit is able to adapt TT 2025 for WIN 10. That must mean that either the WIN 10 computers in use for Intuits Desktop DIY program users have some magical power to thwart the alledged security concerns Intuit is touting as their reason for not supporting us common folks, or the security concern narrative is a BS smoke screen for their real reason for refusing to make it available. I am sure I know, anyone believe they have a backroom deal with Microsoft to help promote WIN 11?

This is BS - not supporting Win 10 & Mac OS Ventura - I have both. I will switch to H & R Block. I just checked there download for 2025 Delux version still supports Win 10 & Ma OS 10.15 and forward. It's a shame as I have been using TT for 24 years. I guess we are a small segment of their customer base that are expendable
