Why won't turbotax import form 1040SR pdf from H&R Block?

You can try to transfer the actual data file from H R Block or TaxAct into the Windows Desktop program.

TurboTax Online and the Mac Desktop program only supports PDF transfers, if you used other tax software last year. But a pdf only transfer very basic info like your name and AGI. It would be just as easy to manually enter all your info. So it's probably not worth even trying to transfer it.

As I've already posted this is what happens when you try to import H&R Block's tax file. It doesn't work!

H&R block  saves the 2021 tax file as a .T21 file.

TT desktop software will not locate this type of file  when prompted to do an Import/transfer when starting the TT 2022 tax prep process.

It actually says it will only look for a .pdf file for H&R.

Last year the 2021 Block software imported all the TT info with no issues.

If I had known this ahead of time I would have either kept using Block for 2022 or spent countless hours trying to get a refund from Staples/Turbo tax.  

This is a poor way to keep TT customers

also while I do appreciate your attempt to solve the issue raised by myself and others, offering a response that begins with 'You can try' instead of  a response that says  'here is the solution for what you are trying to do or it cannot be done with  the existing software' would be more helpful

I just discovered the same problem. I used H&R's desktop software and I filed a 1040-SR.

Looks like the transfer option is not going to work and as others said it doesn't transfer much.

Sad that the Turbo Tax people either don't read their own customer posts or just don't care.

I thought about trying to contact TT direct but I re considered.

Would be more time spent doing that than it will be to re enter all the data that should have been transferred

No, you cannot import a prior year's 1040SR pdf into the 2022 TurboTax software.  Currently, this feature is unavailable for the 1040SR.  If there is some way you can convert the prior year's H&R Block 1040SR into a standard 1040 then you would be able to import the pdf.  Being unfamiliar with the Block software I cannot assist you with that kind of transition.  I will, however, report your concern to the department that enhances the software so you will not have this problem in the future.

First -  I am NOT using a Senior version  SR

I am using the regular TT desktop version

Second I was trying to import last years tax data from H&R block desktop software. 

After using TT for many years I decided to try something different.  

(I assume you don't go to the same restaurant and order the same entre every week?)

As you must be well aware TT saves it's file as  TAX20xx file type while H&R saves their files as a .T21 file type.

So according to the TT instructions, TT will only import   TT files or H&R and TAXACT PDF files only.

Since I want to import from a .T21 file, not being able to accomplish that is a frustration shared by many others.

PS  H&R imported all the needed TT files from my 2020 files  - Go figure.

The 1040SR is the IRS form, not your program version.  For some reason Turbo Tax doesn't transfer from a prior  year 1040SR pdf file from anyone.  If you (or your spouse) are 65 or older you file a 1040SR instead of the regular 1040.  The 1040SR is exactly the same as the 1040 but just has bigger type so it prints on 3 pages instead of 2.  In my Desktop program I go into the Info worksheet and uncheck the box to use the 1040SR, so it prints regular size.
