Look at the listing for the Deluxe software on the amazon site and read that second bullet point under the description carefully. See how it tells you "state e-file sold separately?"
State e-filing fee in desktop software
Did you purchase desktop software with state software included? They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose. And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state. There is an extra fee to e-file the state. Before March 1 that fee is $20; after March 1 it increases to $25. You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
And....if you read carefully enough on the amazon site you will see that it tells you there is a fee to e-file a state return.
You receive one free state software download with the purchase of the TurboTax desktop editions of Deluxe, Premier or Home & Business.
Using the TurboTax desktop editions there is a $25 e-file charge for each state tax return e-filed. This charge can be avoided by printing and mailing the state tax return.

Thank you. I feel that Amazon (or (Intuit) makes the purchase confusing and misleading.
Also seems to me the Turbo Tax program itself has become more difficult and confusing to use each year.
